Super Charger Apex

Re: another year of problems for me

Boosted said:
went to revelstoke last weekend, lightened up the clutch primary to bring the revs up, it worked on the trail but up on the hill went down to 6-7lbs boost, then my fuel controller got wet and the day was over.
The supercharger thing is done for me!
I watch countless people install turbos and play a little with the clutching and off they go, I rode with another s/c this weekend as well, he is very disappointed too
Going to call Al tomorrow and ask for my money back.....
oh and by the way its now 1 yr that I have been waiting for my stage 2 pullies!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your looking for an opinion on a supercharger, THEY SUCK!
sorry but right now Im in no mood

Well that sucks? I am sure they have made some updates to the kits.

Hope you get yours running right! Like my Bender it was unreal FUN!! And some guys just hated them.

Sea level kits work fine. MPI struggled with the elevation portion of their fuel mapping. Set it up at sea level with 24/24 pulleys and hang on! I'll be doing MC Xpress rear mount Apex this weekend and hopefully later this month if everything is finished Simons CPR front mount Apex as well.

Went out this weekend with a friend who recently installed a S.C. from Hartman (MPI)- 7lbs boost pulley - on a 2005 Mountain Apex. He didn't use Hartman's clutching setup. Has 72 gram weights. Small rollers. Stock springs in both clutches. Ran very, very well after a few runs of testing diffferent Helixs. We dragged. He got me off the line but I stayed with him about 500 for feet then we ran out of hill. I run a '05 Mtn RX1 with a Bender II.

I'd argue with anyone out there that it works at sea level. It flat out works. Don't forget as much as some guys do think they know about mechanical it all comes down to the guy installing them. If its wrong and anyone can screw up it will fail. Install it properly and ride it. I put an honest 3000 miles on mine last winter. Never ate a belt, rode it hard as hell and put it away. Never skipped a beat.

I am feeling better every min. about. the SC.
I just know i had a Bender Turbo on a Carb Rx1 that ran spot on. I did all the work, so i would think a fuel injected sled would run balls on with the right set up and tuning.

One, i realy dont want to pull the head off. I have done way to much of that crap. What kind of HP can i see?

Thank you

Well looks like on 50/50 around 245 by what they saw at dynotech. I run 10 psi on pump fuel so Im guessing around 220-230 hp.

I think it all comes down to setup and preferences. I know I will never have another rear mount again, at least until they can figure a way to get the filter outa the snirt and quiet them down! Also hard to get rid of the lag. Front mounts and MPI blower allows use of nice quiet exhaust. Don't try to run more than 10 lbs on a stage one blower or 8.5 lbs on the front mount turbo with stock engine and pump fuel! 12 lbs is fine with a head shim and reduced ign. timing, but any more, and you are just looking for trouble!!!! The MPI looks to be a little more forgiving on boost as it is not at peak boost unless RPM is up. Another nice thing about the blower is no chance for header cracking, and no need to let it cool down two minutes to prevent the oil koching in the turbo housing. They all have their pros and cons, in the end, it all boils down to your needs and preference. I didn't ever think I'd switch to a blower from a turbo. Mike Knapp #17

has anyone ran the stage II, i have been really debating on a supercharger also. i talked to mac today and they will have a new box by the end of the month.
p.s. mac is a great guy to talk to i talked with him for a half hour and answered all my questions. sc is sounding better and better for me

More.... love boost

Setup is so important - turbo or supercharger. Bender stage II: I had to add or reroute all the vacum lines that Bender was clueless too and remove/reroute the air intake from under the tunnel, use brake kine for low/high switch line, clutching was fairly easy once it ran well. 74 grams with small rollers, stock springs and helix. I still get a little belt slippage. Will do more when weather permits. The breather filter from the head (normally goes into stock airbox) is crap. Right next to the clutches. I moved it. I run 30% 110 octane. I average 90 miles on eight gallons in the mountains (5K to 6K in evalation). Burned a crack into the stock header this weekend.

I am looking into a manual boost controller- anyone with any ideas?

Hartman's SC: Hartman was pretty responsive with my friend. Fit and finish AA. MPI does a good job. With Hartman's clutching he was over reving big time at 500 feet and 10 degrees Farn. They sent the wrong belt; the directions were good until he had to over ride the TORS. The fuel brain box that T's into the ECU/EFI controller is sweet. He had to change settings given the temp and evalation. Altitude compensation is coming per MPI for the controller. Nice setup with pump gas. He went 59 miles on just over 6 gallons - minus 10 Farn in mountains.

yamiman, what new box are you refering too? You mean the units that were shiped now are not the new ones?

Mike supposedly the new boxes will have a better transition in the "acceleration" portion of the mapping. I am not sure if it is out yet now or not.
