Super Charger/Blower for RX-1

Not yet. I believe the problem is how to drive the unit. A few were promoting them a couple of years ago, but never produced them.

Rumor has it that Yam is testing a supercharger on their FX HO Jet Ski. The standard HO is rated at 160 hp so they really need to up the ante to meet Sea-Doos intercooled/supercharged 215 hp 4 stroke jet ski. With the RX-1 I think your main problem with a supercharger is the lack of space with the frame surrounding the motor.

why is it a better idea? Becuase it's instant? With the LP kit I use ther is Zero LAG. Also it take HP to make HP with a Super charger!!!

No one has been able to find a good way to drive the super charger.

Check this out, it is for the watercraft version of the RX motor. This is
certainly something that could be done. When the airbox and battery
are removed there is plenty of space to mount the supercharger. The
drive system will be a little challenging but it can be done using a bearing
mounted shaft through the deltabox and a pully mounted to the back
of the primary. I will be exploring this more over the summer and
possibly could have one built for next winter. Will keep everyone
posted if there is interest.

It's no Longer true I read on one of the magiznes i had gotten about the supercharger sled unless they were mistakeing it for a turbo buy tey had all the supercharger stuff under the hood.

My friend have one rx-1 with a blower , i try to put some picture here . he run all the winter with it, made by a yamaha dealer in quebec . gagne lessard is the dealer name in coaticook quebec. very nice sound but my turbo rx-1 is faster mine is homemade kit too , the fastest sled in quebec this year. next year i put some rod & PISTON to put higher boost. thebest.

The picture of the jet ski looks like a centrifugal blower. If so it will not make boost like a Roots style blower. The Roots blower produces max boost off idle where the turbo and centrifugal need rpm's to ramp up.

On a good day the blowers efficiency is about 50% while a properly sized turbo should be in the 70% range. There is no advantage to a blower that I can think of vs. a properly sized and plumbed turbo.

NHRA dragsters don't really have an exhaust that a turbo could attach to. If they did, I doubt that anyone makes a turbo that can handle the CFM a 7000HP motor makes.

A properly sized turbo will have an insignificant amount of lag (talking sleds, not NHRA dragsters).

Why would you want max boost off Idle, you would never be able
to put that much power to the ground on a trail sled. Also at clutch
engagement rpm of say 3800 you certainly would be producing
boost. Another thing is that with snowmobile clutching you are at
9500+ rpm almost instantly thus producing full boost. What am I
missing here.

There are many advantages to a centrifugal blower vs turbo.
First would be to use a self contained blower (no oil feed or return)
You would also be able to retain stock exhaust system.
No need to run smaller gas tank like front mount turbo.
Less heat in engine compartment.
Blower mounted inches from carburators.
No header or exhaust to fabricate.

Disadvantages of turbo.

Oil feed and return.
With a rear mounted turbo you would need some type of pump
to return oil from the turbo to the motor.
You could also have problems ingesting snow into the turbo from the
open tunnel.
Fabricating exhaust pipes and the fact that you can not run a muffler with
a rear mount.
Extreme heat in engine compartment from frount mounted turbo.
Smaller gas tank with front mount turbo.
And lastly, turbo lag.

I think that they are both viable options but dont say that there are no
advantages to a blower because as you can see there certainly are.
