Hey guys,
I have been rocking a stock exhaust for years and last year switched to the Yosimura carbon RS5 loved the sound but was a titch loud so I added the silencer 100 miles later it blew a hole in the top of it from the back pressure. I added the stock back on and now I keep losing the right side exhaust caps 2 in 400 miles and it almost looks like a melted plastic residue left on it as well. When I went back to stock I noticed a drop in RPM too so I know its a little restrictive for the 250hp 4 banger.
So it got me to thinking that I need to beef up the exhaust to cut weight and flow suitable CFM so it doesn't get hot.
I have excel SS headers and from there I am thinking of maybe deleting the 2 into 1 merge and run two pipes with a X pipe back to two smaller carbon cans and run it out under my 151 tunnel extension. This works well in V8's but not sure about the inline 4 cylinder.
I'm a little out of my element on exhaust design but would like to put some thought into a proper set up for flow and efficiency not just packaging and noise. It does have to be quiet I'm not a loud exhaust guy. The silenced RS5 was perfect and I'm using that as a reference.
Thanks for the help!!

I have one (turbo down pipe) into twin pipes with an x into twin opposing mufflers.
(Use to be hooked into a four into two header before turbo instal)
I also used automotive technology as my car runs a similar set up...
What you propose above should work great ... I find the twin muffers are good for
Flow.....low sound.....no drone.
Quieter now than stock... Revs Forever and flows great
I could not get a single muffler to work without making my head hurt after long rides.
If I had photos I would post... Sorry.

Some pictures would be great! I like the weight savings of just one can but if two helps that much more it would be worth it. Where did you place the X pipe? Any rhyme or reason why you put it there? Lots of info on the net and none of it matches haha

RX-1 exhausts use an x crossover followed by twin pipes into the muffler. Cut the silencer from the pipes and have a muffler shop bend you some pipes to spread the twin mufflers a bit.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking!

My x pipe is about 3/4 the way along the twin pipes... I have an rx though.
Not sure how similar your set up is to mine.
I see below the gutted stock muffler but you might find it too load for your taste.
You can hear them on YouTube... It does sound good just a little loud.
