this upgrade started out fairly simply at first / a couple years ago.
winter 2013 season..... I sent out the pretty worn out stock suspension on a 2008 vector ltx standard (about 8000kms) the stock shocks were simply serviced/rebuilt. we also rebuilt the front end with new oilite bushings also. the father in-law never really gave suspension mods a lot of thought at this time....... he absolutely loved it. it should be noted I had done so mods to my nytro..... (which has has been an ongoing project for me....outlined in a thread in the nytro section) and he had done some before and after rides on it. at this time he started to see the light as far as suspension possibilities.
winter 2014 season..... I started the off season (spring of 2013) by being on the hunt for some higher grade suspension components for the vector ltx. the result was as follows: a used set (like brand new only 200kms on them) ohlins front shocks, a used ohlins EC rear shock for the 136" mono skid. the front shocks were left as is, and the rear ohlins EC shock was sent out for service/rebuild and custom re-valve for his weight and riding style (super plush ride was the requirement....... as he was now suffering from a bad back). I also located a brand new stand-alone ohlins EC shock controller after a 6 month search.....got lucky. un-fortunately I didn't get the stand-alone controller up and running, had some issues getting it together, with wiring damaged solenoid etc..... the result was again I LOVE THIS SLED.... its never been better. also added was a matt black rubber dip paint job (easily reversible...... if he didn't like it) a-arms painted black instead of red, and red stripe removed from seat making it all black. he was bitten by the modification bug...LOL
winter 2015 season..... the ohlins front shocks were sent out for a service/rebuild and re-valve, and solenoid and wiring was replaced. the result was again I LOVE THIS SLED.... its never been better. also added was a 2" taller bar riser and a new matt black paint job. and also added all black shock covers to continue the blacked out look.
proposed mods for this upcoming off-season (2" taller mountain mod seat..... currently in transit). my father in-law really liked the +2" mountain mod seat I installed last summer and the difference in riding position now. at that time we will have to again look at the bar riser situation after new seat installed.
Note....the stand-alone controller was removed from the vector ltx and re-wired as a plug and play device to allow it to control more than one shock (we now have 3 vectors using ohlins EC shocks and 1 controller that operates them all).
