I've been reading in alot of magazine articles lately that the 2008 Apex, and Apex LTX have a re-calibrated rear spring and Yamaha has re-valved the rear shock on all mono shock models. My question is; If you were replacing your rear spring with a heavier one due to bottoming, do you replace it with one of the heavier rated OE springs? Or with the 2008 spring?
Based on a 200lbs plain clothed rider.

What would you do?

I just purchased '08 APEX LTX, coming off a '05 RX1 w/revalved shock and heavier spring and I was wondering about the same thing, should I change to my heavier spring or not?

I chose to ride it factory set-up, I'm about #220 suited up and I measured the "SAG" and it seems to be within spec, 40mm +/- shock is at #1 "C" clip and dailed in @ 5 for preload. The '08 set-up does feel MUCH STIFFER!

By what I've been reading is that springs & shocks have been revised for heavier and more aggresive driving.I've also noticed that the front "W" arm is really beefed too!

I still have my BIG BOY spring of my '05, I'll see if I can stick to factory set-up if not then I'll go with the heavier spring.

If I where you I'd try it factory, like I said I find it a lot stiffer than my '05 with the "C" clip @ 1st position you still have 2 more settings to go on the "C" clip.

"XDooMan" what part of Ontario do you ride, we ride Eastern Ontario section #1 and part of Quebec "Montpelier/Mont-Laurier/Charlevoix"
we could maybe meet up this winter.
