So I have been using castrol syntec 5-30 for a few years, but its hard to find now. What are people running for good oil that is affordable? This adds up quick when I have to keep my wifes venture and our rhino up to snuff. thanks

the rhino should be using yamalube as it has a wet clutch as well as the belt clutch. i was using amsoil thumper approved synthetic and i still got slippage on my bigbear. back to yamalube semi synth and no more problems.
have you checked out the oil change kits yamaha offers? i know they are cheaper than buying the stuff individually. heck some of them where cheaper than buying amsoil without the filter.

Royal purple piles I believe have a additive in them for a wet clutch. I use royal purple xrp oil in my dirt bike which is alsoa wet cclutch. Expensive stuff tho.

The cast roll is 6.59 a qt USA and filters are like 11 USA so that is still cheaper than the kit huh? I saw kits for 70 USA.

here in canada i am only paying $50.00 for a rhino kit at my local dealer. it is usually 7-8 bucks for semi synth yamalube here as my bear does not use a cartride filter.
kits come with oil, filter, drain plug gasket, and gloves. we have priced it separately and the kit is within $5.00 of just buying all the parts.

Spoke with dealer today to get pricing...they offer 0-30 yami for 6.99 a qt and filters for 10ish. They sell the kit for 48. I was given a way off price before. Guess I will go with the ya alive for that short of a distance in price.
As for the rhino I will do the same I guess...

I used amsoil 0w40 last year and my sled was burning it up fast so I switched to mobil 1 0w40 hoping it would help. Nope. I just changed the oil and went to 5w30 quaker state high milage dino oil. It's a 03 rx1 and I realize that it's a ring issue not an oil issue, I'm just trying to slow it down some. The best part about the QS 5w30 is I got a 5L jug on sale for $16. Can't beat that. I even went back to dino oil in my truck and the engine seems to run quieter. I'm not sure if I beleive all the hype about the synthetic oils. I just started using synthetic oils in my vehicles in the past 2 years and haven't noticed any difference. All the vehicles I have ever had I have run the good quality dino oils in and have had well over 300,000 km on all of them with out any engine issues. Maybe I just got lucky, but luck doesn't seem to be one of my strong points

The advantage of synthetic oils is mainly easier starting and better fuel economy. The molecules of the oil are supposed to be of basicly the same size making the oil more slippery and they have a higher shear strength. Now to confuse everything even more is not all synthetics are the same.
Grades of oil.
Motor oils are derived from base stocks. That is, a generic oil base is modified with additives to produce a lubricant with the desired properties. A base stock oil with no additives would not perform very well at all. Base stocks are classified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and fall into one of five categories.
Group I and II - these are mineral oils derived from crude oil
Group III - this is a highly refined mineral oil made through a process called hydrocracking. In North America this group is considered a synthetic oil, for marketing purposes.
Group IV - these are true synthetic oils, known as Polyalphaolefin (PAO).
Group V - these are synthetic stocks other than PAO's and include esters and other compounds.
Amsoil 0-40 is made with ester base stock! I believe so is Mobile 1 0-40

Haven't put it in the sled yet, but I run nothing but Rotella t6 5w-40 in my car. EXCELLENT oil, there are countless used oil analysis over on BITOG that prove it out. Just avoid Mobil 1 5w-30. That is potentially one of the worst oils on the market, the $1.50 walmart conventional oil is better.

If you think a major brand oil will hurt your sled, or any other motor, you are smoking something.
