Need more pics, but that front end looks like a Viper. Could be a demo. Vipers also only came with a single pipe from the factory so whatever pipes that are on it are aftermarket, and that was extremely popular to do on Vipers. A Viper with Triple pipes runs damn good.

x2
You could have gotten your hands on some kind of factory build from a year early that someone threw triple onto.
Another theory is someone wrecked the front of your SX 700 and then rebuilt it from the bulk head up as a Viper, which is the theory I'm currently prescribing to with your sled. But then they also had to do an engine swap. A lot of work but doable.

I need help to post the rest of the pictures, so my daughter is coming tomorrow to help.I bought this sled from a friend home from Alberta for Christmas. He bought this sled a year ago from a guy that needed cash put a 100 KM= 60 miles on it and headed back out west. This year there was no snow so he called me to take it off his hands at a discounted price!!! He didn't even now what model or year it was, loud and fasthe said!!! I thought that it might be a SRX
and this is what it is??? I was at a radar run today seen a 2002 SXVIPER and it looked like a twin to mine.A lot of guys knew the sleds history, FAST AND DID I WANT TO SELL IT!!! One of the previous owners now lives a 5 minute walk up the road.I'll get to the bottom of this yet!!!

The graphics on the tunnel are not from a Viper. Looks like a tunnel from a SX I'm thinkin. The rear skid wheels are also not a typical factory Viper wheel as well. Maybe someone changed tunnels.
The pic below is my 02 Viper. Its been stretched to a 136 but you can see the differences in the tunnel and wheels.

My prediction: Previous owner crashed an 01 SX 700. Front end toast. Some 02 or so Viper had a bent tunnel. The owner of the SX 700 "merged" the two sleds by adding the bulk head forward of the Viper onto the SX 700 chassis.
Either that, or your sled really is a Viper, and the tunnel is just an 01 SX 700 tunnel.
Where did you read the serial number? On the tunnel? It'd be interesting to follow up with the numbers from the engine, so see what it's stroy is.....
Truly an interesting puzzle, indeed!

I tell you what that thing is going to boogie big time though. Aren't those Viper motors supposed to hover around 150 w/ triple pipes???

SXR tunnel on a viper.
It looks like the footwell on the clutch side has been bent up and straighted back out. Also look at where the tunnel meets the bulk head, probably newer looking rivets.
If it runs it will haul! 120hp+(24-30hp)=144-150hp depending on the pipe manufacturer.
If you don't know much about 2 stroke yamahas, go over to the 2 stroke totallyamaha side and start reading! Powervalves will become your new best friend.

The serial #on the tunnel matches the ownership 2001 SXVIPER .The dealer said the serial # crosses to a 2001 SX700???I never checked any engine numbers yet.I went to one of the previous owners tonight and he wasn't home and no phone # so i'll have to wait till tomorrow night.

Good eye 701!!! I'll check tomorrow on the rivets . From what you and other guys are saying this thing should really go!!! I bought this sled for resale but might just keep it for a play toy.Haven't started the beast yet and I now she'll be loud because it has a can to go with the triple pipe.yamahaboy701 said:SXR tunnel on a viper.
