Sylvania Silverstar headlights - Excellent on Apex

I'll second that. Great lumen output on the Silverstars, but short lamp life. I've found in my trucks they seem susceptable to bumps/rough ride affecting filament(s).

Take them back to the store, IMHO all I've ever bought (several sets for sled & truck) had short life span and are a waste of $'s - put in HID's, easy install and 10x brighter then the SS's. You can get HID's for as little as $60. 2,400 trouble free miles so far with mine.

I used to run the Silverstar Ultra's on my sled and I currently have them in my truck. I have found that they last about a year or so at the most. Last year I bought the HID kit from Kurt (aka SNOWDOG) at Sled Start <kurt_h@sledstart.com> or www.sledstart.com and they are significantly brighter than the Silverstar Ultra's. Once you run HID's you will never want to ride with any other type of lighting, it is literally a "night & day" difference.

Kurt is a VIP TY member and a paid TY advertiser. Kurt's HID kit is made specifically for the Yamaha's and is truly "plug & play" using all factory connectors requiring no wire cutting or splicing. I also have Kurt's sled start and I have found his products to be of exceptional quality. In the rare instance that you have a problem he has the best customer service in the business. I highly recommend Kurt's HID kit.

x2 except that I never ran silverstars...Went straight from the yellow flashlight on my pex rtx to the HIDs. Unbelievably good, I actually prefer riding at night now that I can see and open it up knowing when someone is coming.

HID's are the way to go without a doubt! Did the silverstars and the life of them is short especially for the cost of them. A good quality HID kit will be cheaper in the long run and most likely you will be transferring the kit to your next sled. A good HID bulb will have a 4000 hour life. A silverstar 300 hours if your lucky. Silverstars don't like abuse.

They are significantly brigher than stock, but it's not fun when the Silverstars blow and you're 80 miles from home. Just bought 4 HID kits and a Yamaheater from Snowdog/Rockmeister. Their customer service has been great. Based on input from this site and past experience, these kits should be much brigher and cheaper in the long run. Can't wait to get these installed this weekend.

I wish i knew about the short life of the Silverstars. I picked up a couple packs when i saw then for 23 bucks a pack. Once they burn out il get some HID's. By the sound of it everyone loves them but i havent seen them in person yet.

Ask your local Yamaha dealer. They may have a set on a sled to show you.

I have been running OSRAM version of these for 3 season no issues. I did order them from England because biker guys swear they are bit britter and more durable.
