I've noticed a few pics on snowest of guys deleting pretty much the entire rear end of the sled around the exhaust. Anyone seen this/done this?
I've been told Timbersled makes the brackets to hold the seat up but I've searched their site and have not found them anywhere.
Anyone able to educate me on this set-up? Would this not melt the bottom of the seat?
Here is a pic so you know what I'm talking about.....

If you mount your seat just by the tabs you will bend them being a jumper. Your best bet would be to cut down your stock mount so it does not extend any farther than needed. OR build a tubular seat mount so that the seat is supported better than just by the tabs. I really like my Skinz seat but they are stupid expensive.

How would the skinz seat be for a 150 mile ride, if you were to do alot of it sitting down?
Actually its very good I was supprised. Im a mountain rider but I did a couple 150 mile rides this year and it was good. Normally Im a stand up rider but I have ben happy when I sit down. Plus it weighs nothing and holds a gas can great if you have undertunnel exhaust

Yeah I was thinking the same thing with the stock heat shield thing. That way the seat would still be protected from the heat as well.
That skinz seat is the the cats pajamas but not in the budget for this year, so I was looking for the poor-boy options.

Yup I hear ya on the poor boy thing, Thats what I would do If I was you is just cut down the stock one. Im sure Caleb (nikolai) will pop up thats how his has ben for like 2 seasons (?) and he also tried running on just the tabs if I remember correctly.
I have the stock set up if you wanted to keep the factory parts and cut down another one. My sled is way too far off that I would ever need factory parts.

Yeah that wouldn't be a bad idea to cut another one down but I think shipping from Alaska to Manitoba might be expensive.

I tried the method in your first pic and it didn't hold up for me. I would cut the stock exhaust cover down and do something like this
reinforced seat brackets

reinforced seat brackets
