Talk me into a Viper or 7000 cat

I have been looking at these sleds also. Would be buying used if I did more than likely. Wondering where a good place is to look for them?

I've owned every 4 stroke Yamaha has come out with since the RX1. The Nytro prototypes we rode were amazing, but the production models like my Nytro needed a lot of tuning to make the suspension work. So with that, all sleds will need some tuning to fit your very need. When I got my Viper, I was anxious to really do some clutching as the prototypes I took out didn't impress me. Suspension, rider position and handling are perfect, but a good clutch kit really makes the sled perform more like it should have from the factory. Lovin my Viper and Sidewinder right now!

But like 09nytro says..... take one for a ride and see what you think. I guarantee there's a lot of Vipers out there that you could just try.

Thanks for all the replies, a lot of good information...sometimes you just hear from the guys with problems, good to hear from people having good luck and enjoying them.

I found this website when my 2015 LTX was on spring order, and after reading about all the problems, I almost cancelled my order. Thankfully, I stuck it out and bought that first Viper. Now I have three! Like you said, sometimes it is good to hear from all the people who love their Vipers!

Not a fan of the viper, id buy another nytro any day of the week over the viper. Ever work on a sled? Viper is cheaply built, they couldnt even manage to put a drain bolt into the chain case, saving massive weight and all. Chain case built so thin I've had buddies who grenaded theres. 85 ties it up have to frig with clutches and gearing to get it to run close to the nytro. Funny thing is viper feels heavier. Guess if u realize your buying a cat not a yamaha you shouldnt be disappointed. Its a cat with yamaha decals.

Any issues? How many parts? I guess inshould eat my words. Pretty impressive. Never dreamed it would do so well without a pile of maintenance.
I have done nothing to motor other than oil and filter changes and one set of plugs. All chassis failings I have seen have been because I still can't seem to stop smiling and pinning the throttle when the bumps and jumps get big! Bushings, bearings etc all lasted well into 8000mi except for one in chaincase. That and brake caliper wear from pads digging into it are issues to watch for. I have every intention of seeing over 20,000 mi on it. Simple affordable maintainence often is the key along with being informed right here on this great site. No way to do it without everyone here.
