Am I the only one that thinks the temp light comes on at too low a temp.

It's hard to believe that our engines are the only ones that overheat. I've never heard of on being damaged by overheating when it had proper coolent level.

I have a 05 RX1. I had the light come on for the first time on the last trip. Trails were hard and flat. We were not running all that hard at the time it happened. My transfer is set at full and my sled wll pull skis at 60 mph. I tried to pull the skis after a corner at 50 mph and she didn't pull them. I look at my gauges and seen my temp light on. I pulled over and drove in some powder for a couple mins. Light went right off. Down the trail I went and she was running as strong as she normally does.
So, maybe it does come on a little early? With todays cars, when the light comes on it usually does engine damage. We don't want that.

Mine didn'tcome on on our last trip till gauge was reading 208. it doesn't take much snow o cool it right back down to 165, but the light didn't go back off until around 180 185. Maxdlx

Do any of you know what temp it would take to damage an engine, and does it stay at 210, or does it continue to climb?

The pressure in the system is to allow the temp to go over 212 (boiling), so it must be OK for it to go over that temp.

Since after the first few rides on my sled and reading about coolent mixtures here on T.Y.. I decided to try mixing the coolent to (what I feel) is the correct ratio, about 60/40. I have not seen the temp light come on unless I get side tracked while my sled is warming up and leave it until it shuts itself off. I restart it drive about 30 feet and it goes off. I've not had it come on while riding once. I was going to put on a gauge after the first few rides because it did come on a few times but figured i'd try the coolent and see how it worked. Figured if the light came on again I would install a gauge so that I could monitor it. No gauge, and no light for ove 6000 miles now.
