Took a good ride this Sat. and had my temp guage drop to the pin. It starts at 100 f and I have never seen it run that low before. Running at a good 80,85 and I thought the guage had stopped working. I pulled over and after about 20 seconds I saw it starting to rise. My question is what temp are they to run. They do have a thermostat don't they? I know cars need to run at proper temp to operate normal. Most of the rest of the day I was watching it and on a run on a lake about 10 miles long it got down to 125f. Normal for me is 160f and the light comes on at 200f. It was cold out, -26 c. Thanks

I had gauges on 3 different 4-holers and once the sled was warmed up they never dropped below 160. Somethings up, where did you mount the sender? I wonder is somehow it isn't in the flow of coolant?

Mechanical or electric gauge? If electric do you have a good ground to the sender?

Electric and it seems to read fine. I did put in the sending unit below the thermostat housing just for ease of install like a few others on here. I'm wondering if my stat is letting coolant thru. I guess taking it out and throwing it in a pot of boiling water would be the easiest way of testing it. Anybody know when they are to open. Thanks guys

You know now that I think of it, it is mounted right by the hose to the rad. I've never run that fast in that cold before and maybie the stat is closing and the cold air thru the rad is cooling the coolant so much it is affecting the guage.

thermastat

I would say your thermostat failed open which is good
better to fail open than closed .
