Does anyone know at what temp the warning light comes on. My light came on a couple of times this last weekend while riding hardpack trails. I would hit some loss snow and it would shut off. My new temp gauge never read much over 150. Could the factory sensor be bad? Maybe an air pocket near the sensor? Is there a procedure for bleeding the coolant system?

Here is the procedure for bleeding the coolant system from the service manual for a 2003 Rx-1. Your application may differ, click thumbnails for larger images.
Also, the manual gives the resistance readings for testing a temp sensor at 176F and 212F. I assume 176F is the normal operating temp and 212F is when the light comes on.

If you never read over 150 degrees on your temperature gauge something is not right. What brand is your gauge and where did you mount the sensor?
My Daytona digital temperature gauge that I bought from Ulmer Racing reads between 165-175 degrees most all of the time during trail and lake riding.

Have an autometer and reads same.
Fan comes on around 200 or so.

Same here. Autometer gauge mounted under the thermostat.
I know what normal temps are and when it's getting hot. If it starts to head towards 190 I try to get into some powder to bring it down. The actual number isn't really important to me.

IMO a reading of 150 while riding is erroneous.
I installed a Daytona digital gauge and get a consistent reading around 170 when riding in abundant powder. On hard pack trails I see readings between 170 and 185, occasionally up into the mid-190's. I believe that the radiator fan kicks on around 195. I have seen temps on the side of the trail, idling (waiting for the group) get up to 206 but never higher. At 206 my warning light was NOT lit.

My sled is at the dealer for a noisy radiator fan. I also asked him to check the high temperature warning because I do not see it prior to the high temperature automatic idle shut down.
Now I am wondering if this is normal (idle shut down should ocurr before the warning light)? Fan on @ about 200 deg. ? Idle shut down @ about 215 deg. ? When should the warning light come on?

Is it just the yellow light, or does the red light come on at an even higher temp?

I seem to recall the yellow light coming on along with the temp. icon in the LCD when the sled would get hot. I also seem to recall that this would happen prior to the auto idle shut-off.
My dealer just told me tonight that there is no warning for high temperature so there is nothing wrong with my sled. He said that there is only the red low temp light. I think that he is wrong about this and that the yellow light should come on with the LCD temp icon at high temp.
If I am right about the high temp warning I need to prove this to my dealer. Can anybody reference anything in Yamaha literature that confirms that there is indeed a high temp warning and better yet at what temperature it is activated at?

You are right about the yellow warning light, and then the shutoff. When I had 14 miles on my sled, I left it idling after driving, came back a couple of minutes later, saw the yellow light, and as I was getting my book out to see what it meant, the engine shut off. As RTX says in the second post, it is 210 degrees for the light, and I believe I have read it. Will reply if I find it.
