I have a 2002 sxrviper 700 triplea and the temp light is always on.I found a small leak at the water pump and fixed that. Then i purchased a new temp sensor and still the light stays on...I have checked the coolers and they are not really hot after 2 hrs riding,i can touch the heads and they are warm not hot...is there anything else that can cause this...i was thinkin about scratchers to make snow hit the side rails where the coolers are...thxs
The temp sensor usually just grounds out the positive lead to turn on the temp light, so I bet if you trace the wiring from the sensor to the light, you will find a short where the wire is grounding out to the frame or engine.

You said its a viper? I had one and there was a wire harness that runs under the motor and its known to chaff over time. ITs a pain to even see but you can if you get down in there and take a peek. Have to remove the exhaust though. I found a chaff and put some tape over it and never had a electrical issue again.
