I read an article by Lakercr in the Tech Center on how to remove a jackshaft and bearing from an RX/RS/Apex. I followed the step by step procedure and the shaft and bearing came right out of my 2008 Vector.
I just wanted to say "Thank you again TY", and to all that have the taken time to answer questions and share info.

jackshaft removal
I have the same job to do on my vector. Do you have to remove the reverse gears to pull the jackshaft

EDITING THIS BECAUSE I HAD A BRAIN FART AND GAVE BAD ADVICE AT FIRST.
The whole chaincase has to come off to pull the shaft. So the gears have to come out. To be honest though, it's really no big deal taking the gears off. What I did was as I took off each gear and shim, I put a piece of wire through the middle. I wired all hte pieces together in the order I took them off. That way, on reinstall I know exactly what gear and shim goes where and in which order.
My problem was that my '03 RX1 doesn't have that screwed on tapered bushing. It just has a press fit. I stared at the pictures for a while, compared them to my service manual then decided to take a sledge to the jack shaft (carefully and with a piece of wood). A few solid taps and it knocked the shaft free.
Now I can't quite figure out how my non-threaded bushing holds the jackshaft in place on re-assembly... i'm hoping it all works itself out when I get the parts.

Re: jackshaft removal
Honestly, since you're that far, just pull the chaincase / drive axle and replace the drive axle bearings too. Atleast check them.
