Got my first real ride today, only 80 miles or so in Marathon Co. WI. After riding an 06 Apex ER last year with worn out Doolys (didn't know how bad until we put on some TPs) I was wondering what the heck I was doing on a Yamaha? Well I asked for some help because I am about as novice as they come with even basic motor vehicles (but they sure are fun).
So what did I do? I back off my front shocks (not quite parallel A-arms). Added shims, ski savers, and TPs from Bergstrom, and pulled up my limiter strap one notch. Not sure if I buy into the whole triple point carbide thing, maybe shapers would work just as well and it has more to do with the other two, either way I really like the set up and would by the TPs again if they wear half as well as others have said.
The difference is unreal, the sled handles SO much better. The only thing is my transfer rod is still set a little more towards max than middle, would this make a very big difference in handling/cornering? At this point I think it is really helping to anchor the sled coming out of turns and when I hit fields. My other question is about the 13 mm bar. I do have ski lift, but the ski lift is relatively predictable and pretty settled, would the 13 mm bar help this? Some people say that the bar makes ski lift worse, others say that it settles it dramatically. I think I could accept a little more chatter, is it very bad at trail speeds on pretty smooth trails? The only negative thing was, more than likely due to poor stock skis, in really soft condition with a lot of loose snow I could not handle near as well, but most of my riding will make this a non-factor.
All in all, without this site I would not be near as satisfied with my sled (now an 07 Attak). The fact that you guys (basically anyone who post frequently in this section) are willing to help out people like me that really know little says a lot about this site and its users (not every thread is a this vs. this brand loyal bashfest). My sled probably still doesn't handle like the Rev or XP chassis, but it is enjoyable and pretty close.
Thanks again guys
