Hey Big Guy!!

At our club meeting last week we decided to try your anti-darting system on our sleds as well as our wife’s sleds. Most of the people with stock skis and runners were unhappy with darting especially the women who had their front end set light for ease of steering. We have Polaris with single runners, Polaris with dual runners, Vipers, RX1s, RX1s with M10’s and my warriors.

We added shims per your instructions and measurements. Most of the sleds used ¼ inch or 3/8 inch. All the M10’s both RX1’s and Polaris took 5/8 to ¾ inch spacers. We stalled them on 16 sleds, both Polaris and Yamaha. This test is going to be interesting with plenty of feedback.

A couple of the women said that they would give you a great big kiss if this works. One of the guys said you could even sleep with his wife if it made her stop complaining. I know we will all owe you a few beers.

That's got to be the funniest post I've ever seen on TEEWHY!

Do some of those Poodles have M10's from the factory? If so,I know they raised the rear bumper height by an inch or more, and Polaris didn't change the ski bumper at all for the skid.

I did post once on Amsnow to the Poodle kids over there who complained about M10's ruining the tracking of thier sleds, and were determined that new skis were the answer, even though their last sled with the same skis did not dart....MISTAKE.

If your skis give you the bite you want, no need to replace, just shim away.

So, my guess is if some of those sleds need that big of shim to get an 1/8" gap on new carbide on a flat floor, they were darting all over the place.

You've got to also think about some of those ski designs. A big rocker ski (like some of the skidoo single runners) will throw you off, most of an 8" carbide won't touch anyway, and you'd have to eyeball it a lil bit.


Something I often find with wive's sleds, is that the mechanic in the family is usually busy tuning his own sled to properly set up a machine for the boss in the family. A lighter rider on an XCSP, SXR, Viper, (any machine set up for 180lb agressive rider) won't compress the skids enough to get into that sweet spot where the factory designed the ski bumpers to ride in. Rear bumper height with weight on it is a dead give away.

I've often wanted to go riding with a tape measure, and find a sled that darts and measure rear bumper height with the rider on there, to see what's good for different models and ski combos.

To further drive home this concept, ask a 300 pound guy if his sled darts, hehe. There'd have to be a HUGE front bias to make that rider/sled combo dart, hehe.

One more thing to think about, if you go too far with shimming, you will take away some of the bite in corners, especialy with a rocker ski. Keep a close eye on wear bar wear patterns on all those sleds, and you'll have hard data to go along with the testing. Sounds like a blast to me, but I'm kinda geeky that way
