Well, we went for a lil desperation run in the Cape Breton Highlands today. 85 km's total on 6-10 inches of snow, mainly sticking to the sides of the roads due to Moose hunter's tire tracks. It's early for us to get out around here, but we were hit with a Nor'easter over the past weekend that dumped anywhere from a dusting to 30 plus cm's of snow all over the province, so some of us are taking advantage of it before the meltdown...yep, 12-15C the next few days, so more than likely after tomorrow it'll all be gone and you'd never know a single flake hit the ground. Anyway, I can't really comment on the sled all that much due to low snow levels, except for a few obvious things. The power and handling felt good. The rear suspension is a lot more forgiving than it was on the pre-pro, so hopefully I'll get a chance not long from now to really test it out. It's by far one of the more comfortable sleds I've ever ridden, which is one of the main reasons I decided on this sled. There were no negative issues really to comment on so far. I did find that my left boot got wet, and it can't be from too much snow on the running boards, probably just that my foot was sweating in my boot due to the warm temps, somewhere around 2-4C outside I'd say. I didn't get a chance to swap my track just yet, but I know I won't be happy with the ripsaw once the snow levels pile up. Perhaps on a perfectly groomed trail the ripsaw will shine, but who rides groomed trails on an FX Nytro RTX ?!?!?? lol !!! I varied the rpm's throughout the day, as I do with all my Yamaha's, and they always work great in the end, so I probably averaged 60-125 Km/hr off and on, nothing serious and no WOT runs yet. When I started off I was probably a few litres from full, and after 85 km's I had one bar above the half level, so not bad so far, and again, I didn't push it too hard during the initial break-in. I already know how far one can travel on a tank from my riding experience last April, so there was no need to prove anything just yet. I love the running boards ! They're nice and wide, no missing them in the rough stuff this year ! The clutching was good and I was really surprised with the low end and mid range. I had forgotten how much power this sled has, and even though I didn't run it hard, I could feel it pulling strong everytime I hit the higher rpm's. Last but not least, I love the look of this sled, and I have to Thank Jordan @ ArcticFX for taking the time to be patient and work with me on the Urban Camo graphics I wanted, so Thank You Jordan, your work is AMAZING ! I didn't want to stray too far away from the stock look, and I still have a few pieces of the decal package here that I haven't placed on the sled just yet, still undecided, but these accents I find really set it off and add some personal spice. I'm still waiting on the Slydog Urban Camo skis and wheels, but I'll update once they're installed. Well, so far so good ! I've got a head-start on the break in, and not in 4 feet of fresh powder as usual, but I'm hoping for plenty of it soon ! ;)!

Here's a few pics for ya ! :yam:

Nice looking sled!!

Glad to see you got her out!!

Look forward to your posts! Let us know if youtoo felt the power increase somewhere around 45 miles!! Springs starting to loosen up @ 90 miles I now have 175 miles on and not much has changed! Still waiting to find top speed! Sould be close to or slightly over triple digits (mph)

Have fun!!

Looks great man. Must be nice to get that first ride out of the system. Better to get the break in done now rather than when we have lots of powder in the highlands.

Funny how your pictures could be from the Interior of Alaska. Only difference is your trees are a bit more full and bushy. We have enough snow to ride from my home now and I just got back from a ride. 105 miles on the sled now and it feels very strong and very quick.

One thing we noticed was the massive amount of heat that was exiting the panel on the left side. This may be why your foot was wet. There was heat coming from the right, but not nearly the same amount. Also, this was just during warm-up, so I am sure that when you are out riding, it will be hotter.

Thanks for the comments guys, and I forgot to mention that I tried the reverse a few times and it worked perfect everytime ! I'll also post a new topic next week showing the final look with the new skis and wheels installed, can't wait to see it finished myself ! :bling

Looking good Dave.. I'm gonna make a trip up some friday night and ride with you guys for a weekend. I was taking mine out the other day. But I decided not too. Its not ready yet. I'm gonna wait for some real snow.

Another thing I noticed was the engine braking, or lack of it. I let off purposely on the sled several times to see how it reacted compared to other 4 strokes and it was significantly less noticeable, just like a 2 stroke actually. It's gonna be nice not having that "here I go over the bars" feeling this year...lol !!! ;)!

Out for another good ride yesterday, 101 kms total and exactly half a tank showing on the fuel gauge. This time I did some short WOT runs and rode in powder, so the fuel mileage is good so far and improving considering I rode much faster and harder this time. The engine seems to be waking up a bit more now as well, it pulls very strong and hard ! I find the suspension works great, hit a few drifts and bumps and everything felt good, no bottoming or harshness on the landings. The stock track is horrible for riding powder, it's coming off this week without a doubt !!! I really like the Slydog skis, they're floating better than the stock ones, (from what I remember of my ride experience last year) and they're handling much better too, much improved steering response. I swapped back and forth with my neighbour who has a completely stock 40th RTX, and we both noticed a big difference in steering. Everyone was eyeballing the skis and wheels and couldn't help but notice the extra width in the skis too. I'm not so sure on the heated grips and throttle just yet, sometimes they felt ok temperature wise, others there was little heat at all, so I have to wait a bit to pass final judgment in that respect. My left boot got wet, again, so I'm going to have to invest in a so called "good pair" of boots, AGAIN ! Not much else to say other than I can't wait to install the skidplate and Intense track this week and see how it performs in deep snow. Till then, I'm very impressed with the sled, it's light and very comfortable, and has all the power and suspension I need ! ;)!
