2012 Apex XTX or A/C XF1100 Turbo Sno Pro
So this is the year for a new sled for me. My 2008 Nytro left me stranded out on a lake last season so it is time for it to go. I am yamaha loyal, owned nothing but, however being that I haven't seen much change in the Yamaha camp I'm struggling to pull the trigger on a 2012 Apex XTX when I have a 2006 Apex (128") also sitting in the garage. That happens to be my dads sled but I'm always welcome to ride it.
I ride 90% groomed trail in N WI and UP. I like to go fast on the lakes and hard through the trees. However I want to be warm (wind protection) and smooth ride (Hence the longer track)
What do you guys think?

Hands down 2012 apex xtx with snowtrackers and you will be happy as hell. Good friend bought the same cat and had 3 or 4 recalls and wasn't happy with the power of it. Also his hood doesn't even fit right.

2013 Cat but not a 2012.

They are very close to being the same. With some light mods the apex with be as fast as the cat. The PS on the apex is a nice one up on the cat. With the iusses the cats had this year I would wait one more year.
Do you like the 06 apex???? If so, the apex xtx is a 99 percent improvement over that in almost every aspect. Of course if you don't like the 06 apex, then you may not like the XTX......it is still a heavy pig when you are stuck, but what sled isn't??

When I saw the 2012 cats last spring I thought they were the coolest trickest line up of sleds that anyone had ever intrduced . That being said if you are going to jump ship you need to take a couple of hours (if your a speed reader) and sort thruogh the pages upon pages of disapointed cat owners who purchased a new cat last year on arcticchat and HCS. Really, I was sad that I purchased a 2011 apex last Feb.after seeing the new cats but after a season on the new Yamaha I am really glad I resisted the temptation.

This above the best advice you are going to get. Many did not apend much time on the trail. Mostly in the dealership.
Even a good Cat dealer that has other brands will tell you not to buy a 2012 Cat.
Do not even consider one. I wouldn't even consider a 2013 as the fixes have not been all identified yet.
The 2012 Apex bears no resemblance to a 2010 or earlier. Pretty much nothing the same. It is an awesome sled.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I definitely have read about the problems. It would be a 2013 cat if any. Yes I think they are sick looking. I especially like the white black color combo.
I do like the 06 apex. It doesn't seem like it pulls as hard as the nytro but by the time I get to 70mph the apex is always going by me.
my wife ride is a rage that has a136" track. I love that sled on the trails the have the wash board bumps.

You really should test ride the Apex XTX, and the 128" Monoshock Apex, and see which one suits you the best, for the type of riding you do the most. There is a big difference in the rear skids, and the ride.

Test riding is sort of out of the question. No snow here. My only experience is going from a 06 apex (128) to a 06 rage (136). I love the ride of the 136 compared to the 128. 144" should ride even better right?

XTX, no comparison. Best sled I've ever owned and I've owned many.
