Last year I purchased an new FXR large jacket but find it a tad on the tight side when wearing my Tek-Vest.

I did find the coat slightly cold in the chest and arm area but my buds say I have too much clothing on and not enough dead air space inside the jacket?

So I am looking to reduce the amount of clothing I wear or at least the thickness so I need to know what is the thinnest warmest type of clothing available out there?

I normally wear long-johns, a turtle neck plus a big sweater but would like to reduce it to only 2 pieces of under clothing and still keep warm or warmer if possible?

Everyone will have different opinions here, but I wear the KILM klimate coat and bibs. T-shirt and jeans under. Never been cold. Hot, yes, but not cold. Buddys are correct, you need air space.

Under Armor and a Jersey are all thats needed under a tex vest and a shell.Sweat is your enemy.

ECWS thermal clothing system from cabelas or under armor base 2.0, 2.5, or 3.0 if your really cold... the ecws system is the same thing we use in the military and it works extremly well. I purchesed the UA base 2.0 sytem this year as its a little cooler and i got hot last year with just the ecws and my arctiva shell sytem.

Hope this helps!

Great info, I googled it but see no places in Canada that sells it? (quick look)
It sounds like the stuff I am after so I will try and see if I can get some somwhere up here?

Thanks everyone, good info ;)!

underarmour "cold gear". warm, snug, wicks moisture... I wear a top and bottom under jeans and a long sleeve tshirt. top layer a yami jacket and bibs.... nothing high end just regular trail jacket. ride all winter long -30 or whatever.

- The Under Armour is available Dale.
- Sport Chek, Crappy Tire, places like that who sell Sporting goods.

- Make sure you get it soon...we'll be heading North the 3rd or 4th week of Janaury!!

sic....sic...sic :-o

Thanks John, and eveyone else.

I think I will try and see if I can track down some ECWS first, but if not, then it looks like Under Armour will be the ticket?

My son uses it playing hockey, I wonder if it's the same stuff or is the "cold" stuff even better?

I wear my yamaha jacket(dont know who makes it) sweatshirt with Tshire undearneath. Never been anything but hott. IF your getting cold while riding its either becuase your jacket isnt windproof enough or you dont have enough on. More layers will not fix your problem

Agree!! Had a friend go into a bay last winter and was not found for 1.5 hours due to blizzard conditions. He survived by getting onto a floating piece of ice and his body temp was 86f when he was found. He swears by having right kind of gear, specifically being Goretex and not being so layered up that water would have been weighing him down and holding water.

Uarmour cold gear is made with special lining. Was made for ski/snoboarders and people exposed to winds.

I am not looking for more layers, just thinner and less layers than what I currently use.

Sounds like good stuff and is probably what I'll go with as it is looking like the ECWS isn't available up here?

Thanks for the help ;)!

Line/hang dry only...no dryer!

Its tight, but once you have it on for a bit you will love it.
