go ahead, tell me i'd be an idiot, tell me it would be stupid, tell me i'd be cool, tell me i'm insane....I'm just looking for any advice from guys who have experience in the flatlands with 144" skids.
My RTX is already stretched out to a 136 but I've been thinking more and more that it would be fun to put an aftermarket skid in and step up to a 144". I have no real particular reason for doing it other than it would be a fun project, it would be different and it would probably give me killer traction while running big boost on a front mount turbo.
Up until I got my Apex I lived out on the lake running radar and I realized this past season that it's just not my thing any longer and realized how much of the sport I was really missing. We took to getting back out there and having serious fun breaking trail, running hydro lines and ditch banging and I think the 144" would be a blast but having no experience riding a 144 in the flatlands I don't know if i'm being completely foolish or not.
I still do a lot of miles on the lake cruising from destination to destination but I figure with the aid of some boost I'll still be running plenty fast enough to have a good time on the lake and when I hit the off trail stuff I'll have a blast with this kind of setup.
Not sure if i'd run a 1.5" lug or a 1.25 ripsaw with a few studs.
any comments from the peanut gallery?

i'v got 151 rip saw on my mtn max and did all kinds of riding from mountain to river cruising. sure like the extra lenth you dont know when you'll need it.but when you do you'll like it.

More rubber = more fun.
Just don't do anything dumb, like skid relocations or ripsaw track. Do it right with a 144 expertx and Camoplast freeride 9873. Or if you want it to do REAL good in the deep, maybe try a 9003. I would question how good a 9003 would be for on trail though.

expert X will be going in just not sure if its a 136 or 144 but I'm leaning towards 144.
Track is totally up in the air right now, looking for feedback and reccomendations for sure. I need to do some soul searching on my end. I'm tempted to do a 144 x 1.5" but I have a feeling with the turbo I'll still want to do the odd radar run etc and would want studs so that makes me think a 1.25 would be the way to go.

LB, I looked on the Camoplast sight for the track you recommended, it is not there. Where can I get more information on this?
I'll be needing a fully clipped tracked so that is something to consider as well in my selection.

Definately do it , long tracks look better , give you more floatation for the deep stuff , heck my shortest track is 159 , I dragged a guy the other day on the lake with a 128 track on a f- 8 with big nitrous ,with my turbo at 17 psi and the 162 track ,he was nowhere to be seen until we ran out of lake and I let off .

Thats not it. Thats an "intense", which has 1.5" lugs and NOT available in 144". There is no picture of freeride on their website. Tracksusa.com has this picture of 9874:
9874 is the same as 9873, just 151" instead of the desired 144". This design is 6 pitch staggered, like 9818/9833 and is a very good track.
BTW: be aware that the 136 has a couple of downsides when compared to 144". The 136 is really just a 121 with extensions. I know extensions work ok, but its always nicer to have full rails. In addition, the 144" comes standard with DTR, which helps keep the skis DOWN - even with it, these things really like to stand up on their as*.

I got stuck in mud 3 times this year. Traction is not as good as I would like (could it ever be?), but what I *really* don't like about ripsaw is how soft and delicate it is. Oh yeah, another thing... overdrive your primary and gear it WAY down. I've got this RX1 running 23/42 gearing and IT ROCKS. Holeshot is unbelievable.

For me, it would be a tossup between that 9873 and 9003. I really like the idea of the 9003 for off trail, but I have a feeling that it will suck on trail.
