Thinking of trading my Apex for a Viper?

That is a great trade in value. That sled in the northeast would wholesale at $3,220.00 if it is a gt.

I agree, I could buy the 2015 Viper L-TX DX for $11,300 without a trade. Therefore I am getting $4,500 for my 2007 Apex GT with 9,600 miles. Plus trading it in reduces my state sales tax by almost $300 on the new sled.

We don't have a sales tax in NH, so I didn't even think of that. 300.00 is some goodies to go.

if you are thinking of a turbo and doing it yourself. maybe look at hurricane. i have never done a mod to my sled myself before and i did the hurricane turbo in under 4 hrs total. everything comes with it but the clutch kit and gauges if you want them. i to came off an apex mine was tuned to 165 hp. i rode the viper stock (1800 mi) and missed the power on the open ground and straight aways. otherwise the viper is way faster through the woods and in the tight stuff. but my turbo viper always is leading anywhere now! i love the power. believe the hurricane kits are around the 3200 area. also so far haven't seen any trouble with the hurricane kits.

Kipp at Pat's Yamaha in Greenland, MI installs a load of the Push turbos. He has had no problems and usually includes the AFR and boost gauges. That kit at that price is about $700 cheaper than the MPI stage 1 kit with intercooler. The install price is very close to MPI install $. I just have not heard anything about their customer service. At least Matt at MPI is always available.

Its not always about $$

I looked at a Viper receiving the Push turbo at my dealer and it looked like a real clean install. Please keep the turbo kit comparison feedback coming. If I buy this Viper I will probably end up putting a turbo on it so that I can run with my 800 Doo buddy's.

There are fast sleds and then there are sleds you can ride fast. I ride with polaris and doo 800s even in stock form the viper is faster on the trail. Unless you like to lake race I think you will be happy with the viper even without the turbo.

almost 7 grand for an 8 year old machine is a great deal! if it were me I would jump on it! but the dealer using non-factory authorized turbo kits might mess up warrantee claims if anything were to happen to your motor. just a piece to chew over. if you trust your dealer to stand behind your product in-case something should go wrong than go with it, if there is any doubt go with factory authorized, or source your own kit

Well I was ready to do the deal today but I had to make sure that the LTX DX would fit in my 10' trailer with a cap and it did not. The dealer did not have any 129" versions of this sled (RTX DX) but he had a RTX SE in blue & white which is a 129" track with the Fox float 3 front shocks that fits perfectly in my trailer.

He offered me the RTX SE for $200 more (my sled plus $7,000) than the LTX DX deal (my sled plus $6,800). I think the deal on the RTX SE is better based on the MSRP of both sleds.

I don't care about the heated seat that is standard on the DX but I like the mid height windshield that the dealer is willing to put on the RTX SE at no additional charge.

Another option would be for him to locate a black RTX DX for me which he said would cost me my sled plus $6,750.

Just to make things more confusing he offered me a 1.75" track installed on the RTX SE or RTX DX for the same price if I want it. I would probably stud the stock 1.25" track but not the 1.75" track. I rarely go off trail riding primarily groomed trails.

So I have a few questions, specifically:

1) Is the color, front shocks, heated seat and windshield the only differences between the DX and the SE?
2) Is the RTX SE worth $250 more than the RTX DX?
3) Should I take the stock track or the 1.75" track?

Thanks in advance for your advice and insight.

Blue Dave, Just curious on what wouldn't fit in the 10ft trailer...was it length wise or height (the windshield) that wouldn't fit? The reason I ask is I have a 10ft triton enclosed and I fit a 2010 vector ltx in there and before I got the Viper I could also fit my 2011 Nytro XTX in there. I did have to pull the XTX up pretty far where the front of the skis were into the loop of the clam shell but still allowed me to clamp the skis down. It was tight but it would fit. I'm surprised the Viper LTX wouldn't fit.

That seems like a good deal ($200 more). But- compared to the DX you will be giving up a plush ride in which the rtx will be more on the stiffer side. Going into it I was nervous about the Fox Float 3's but after one full season I really like them on this chassis. I find the Float 3's up front to be fine at 65-70lbs but the rear suspension is what many (including myself) have complained about or would like if the valving was better. The RTX seems to be more compliant than the LTX SE but still on the stiff side. I had Pioneer revalve my rear shocks in the off season and now I can actually feel the rear of the sled move up and down now. It wasn't bad per say but it could've been much better and that is why I got them revalved.

On the track...I do think the 1.75" would be fun track to have on any sled but the big question is what kind of riding do you do mostly? If you are on trail 98% like I am I would say stick with the stock track. If you are gonna put studs in then stick with the stock track If you go off-trail a lot then go with the 1.75".

I would like to make a decision today if possible. I need some input from you guys. Thanks in advance for your help!

It was the mid height windshield on the LTX DX that caused the interference issue with my trailer cap. I had to pull the LTX way forward to clear the bumper but that made the windshield too far forward to be where the cap peaks in height. We put a RTX with a mid height windshield in my trailer and it just fit with a 1/4" clearance above the windshield.

I would rather have the 137" track but I need the mid height windshield to stay warm. When I was younger I always had the low sporty windshields (if you can call them that) to look cool. Now that I am older (and wiser?) I want to be warm.

Tell me more about the ride difference between a DX and the SE. Is it just the front shocks that are different or are the rear shocks different as well?

Put the AC Mid Shield on the LTX -DX and be happy.
