Thinking of trading my Apex for a Viper?

If you are really sold on the 137" track then I would do what Monte1214 suggests and go with a little bit shorter windshield on the DX. As for the DX vs the SE rear shocks...I am not entirely sure if the shocks are different in the rear but I can certainly tell you the SE shocks are valved stiffer/firmer. The front shocks are for sure as they are fox float 3's on the SE.

Thanks guys for all of your input. My dealer found a 2015 RTX DX in black and it will be delivered on Tuesday. The cost is $50 less than he had quoted for the LTX DX. That surprised me because I would have thought that the price difference between the 129" and 137" would be more than that.

In any case the deal is done. I am giving him my 2007 Apex GT with 9600 miles plus $6,750 for the 2015 RTX DX and he is swapping out the stock rear storage bag for the larger one at no charge. He is also swapping my unused spare Apex belt for a spare Viper belt at no charge.

I really wanted black anyway and I think that the coil over front shocks are better suited for my type of riding which is primarily groomed trails. I don't want to be playing around with air pressure on the front shocks. I want to find the right adjustment for me and then as Ron Popeil would say, "set it and forget it" LOL!

I am going to put some miles on it before adding the Push turbo. I want to establish a "baseline" of what the stock performance is like so that I can appreciate the difference after adding the turbo. Who knows, I may decide that I am perfectly happy with it as is and can save myself $4K ?

may want to keep the spare apex belt (8dn) seems everyone is running it on the vipers with better performance than the viper belt (8jp) maybe he could keep the new 8jp off the viper and give you another 8dn.

I am sure he would do either belt swap. Please elaborate on what the difference is between these two belts and why the Apex (8DN) belt would work better on a Viper than the stock (8JP) belt that Yamaha says to use on a Viper.

there has been many threads on this topic and latest is on the gates belt. basically the 8jp has had problems with slippage, creating alot of belt dust, and creating a wondering rpm range. i and many others have had this problem. my sled the 8dn fit right on without any adjustment. some have had to add or remove washers to the secondary to achieve proper ride hight. and others have had the secondary machined. i am going to look into the gates belt as it seems to grip the best which will be good with boost. just look up 8dn and 8jp in the search bar. lots of info.

Are the two belts dimensionally different or is it just the compound of the rubber?

I would try the 8jp first. I do not have any of the issues others have had.
Right but what "seems to be working" for one is "not right" to another. Some want it to be perfect and others don't care and just want to ride.

It can always be better.

Thanks guys. I guess I hijacked my own thread here by making it about the belt. I will read the other threads on the belts and post my questions and comments there instead of here. Thanks again to everyone who posted their advice and opinions on the sled trade. I am excited to pick up the sled this week. The trails officially open tomorrow here in MN. Bring on the snow!

Dave,
Sounds like you've got 1 hell of a good dealer out there! Be sure to support him as much as possible & congrats on the new sled!

Yes, I have one hell of a good dealer! I have done business with this dealer for over 30 years now buying many new Yamaha sleds and many thousands of dollars worth of parts, accessories, & clothing over the years. I had another dealer look at my trade and he actually offered me a deal that was $150 better. However I went with my local dealer because he more than made up for that difference in discounts on parts, accessories, and clothing that I bought with the sled. Most importantly because of him taking care of many questionable warranty issues over the years by going to bat for me with Yamaha. This is all because I have a personal relationship with him and I know that he will continue to take good care of me. To me it is not worth $150 to jeopardize that relationship and the good will that he has shown me over the years and will continue to do so for many years to come.
