I installed the 05 RX Mtn cable (8FW-26311-00) on my 03 RX Mtn to extend the handle bars. Have plenty of length in the cable itself but I cannot get enough freeplay in the adjustment of the actual throttle cable. I have the adjuster in all the way and it it still wants to take off. I thought maybe the idle was set too high so I turned that all the way out but still nothing. I finally unhooked it from the throttle flipper and got the idle correct but when I hook it up it still pulls.. Any ideas? Did I get a bad cable from Yamaha where the inner cable is just too short for the correct adjustment?

Thanks!

I've heard of several people using that cable. My 1st suggestion is to make sure the cable end is cliped into the throttle lever complettly & that it is routed correctly thru the handle bars. From there, the adjustment needs to be right too.

I did, that is why I am thinking that the inner cable portion was made too short from the factory... :o|

Help? I took it all apart again last night and still not enough adjustment.. I think the inner cable is too short? Anyone? :o|

It would seem to me that the inner cable from the new should measure the same as the original when pulled thru the housing. What I mean is, pull the inner cable of the old cable assembly to the end, measure the inner cable that is out. That measurment should be the same for both cables, I would belive. Hope I made myself clear.

@#$!@#

I totally understand what you are saying, unfortunately I do not have the original. I sold it when I sold the stock handlebars.... #$%&* :o|

Maybe someone out there can do that measurement for you, I would but it is in storage for another month or so.

I have a regular mountain throttle cable that I will measure the freeplay on tomorrow for you. You can cross-ref that measurement with the 05 one. rx1mtn is right, the freeplay measurement should be the same on both cables.

Sounds great. Otherwise i am taking it to the dealer to try and figure out.... :o| #$%&* :(

I could only hope.....

I wish it was that simple, but I checked that multiple times...

Have you re-checked the other end attached to the carbs? I had a hell of a time getting my cable inserted in the linkage correctly. Might want to look there (if you haven't allready) and make sure that end is seated well and the cable is following the groove in the linkage like it should.

I know this is a long shot but is it possible that the cable sleeve got stretched. Was there any time when the cable got hung up when turning the handle bars. This hapened to mine when I put a riser on. Confused me for quite a while. Just a thought.

Figured it out

I figured it out. What I thought was far enough inside the throttle block was not. I just wiggled a little harder and it ended up going about 1/4" further in. Just what Dr Ordered!! Let's ride!!! :4STroke:
