Tight Track after Skid Frame Removal and Reinstall

Hi Folks,

Here's what I have: 2013 short track, base model, 1.25 track (original), 96 studs. Both limiter straps in lowest holes (unchanged).

Last summer I pulled out the skid frame and overhauled it: new slides, bearings where needed, and had both shocks rebuilt. Reinstalled it and discovered right away the track tension was tight. So I gradually backed off the adjuster bolts more and more. Now they are at the loosest setting - any looser and they will be out of the plastic of the lock nuts. But the track is still tighter than it was before the skid frame was out - with no more adjustment available. It is possible the track is (barely) loose enough at this point - I need to measure deflection to be sure. Btw, my fuel economy hasn't changed after all this.

So I am wondering if anyone knows why this has happened. I've double-checked the reassembly. I expected the track would be too loose at the current setting of the adjusters.

Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have ran it?

I was going to suggest the track and drive cogs were not aligned and the track was potentially riding high or binding

With an older track that has stretched , skid should just flop in easy

Thanks for the suggestion, Sevey.

I inspected the rear axle and there was no more than 1/4" of slot in front. We pulled the axle right to the forward limit and aligned the track. The adjuster nuts were just snugged up and the bolt thread barely meets the nylon insert in the nut. Measured track deflection and it's now acceptable. So, I believe it's set up ok now, but I don't yet understand why it took that extreme setting in order to work.
