I installed the Koso X-2 gauge on my 16 Viper and used a small 12v time delay relay programmed for a 12 second on delay. Seems to work very well for this application.
Gauge power is supplied from a 2-pin accessory power plug down by the oil tank above right foot well. You can find the mating power plug at most auto parts stores in the trailer wiring section.

Red wire is the power lead.
Yellow wire goes to the koso gauge power lead
Black is ground
Blue wire is not used (trigger)
White and Green wires are used to program the relay.
Two momentary pushbuttons are temporarily wired up to program the relay.

Mr Sled had trouble with the gauge functioning properly when the gauge powered up at the same time the engine started. We talked about it at the Novi show. Turning the gauge on after the engine starts and the gauge works properly.
Cool! You know I wonder if the engine cranking over also interferes with the stock ECU?

I have the same set up now too.. the voltage spikes when cranking screws up the Koso 2... other then that they work awesome!!
I wonder if there is a way to isolate the ECU from those spikes?

I wonder if there is a way to isolate the ECU from those spikes?
I tried all kinds of stuff. I even used an outside power source but it still would pick-up spikes thru the ground on the O2 sensor. Trust me the time delay on is the only way on a viper.
Oh I am sure it works great for the gauge but I am thinking something similar happens to the ECU causing issues. If some type of filter could be employed so ECU has a clean steady voltage at startup it might help matters. Did that guage have same issue when used on your Apex or Nytro?

No it only has issues on the Viper.
See what I am getting at?
I wonder if the Viper having the key start separate from the kill switch circuit affects this? On a Japan Yamaha with kill switch off starter will not crank. On a Viper it will. Does that mean the kill switch circuit on a Japan Yamaha is tied into the starting circuit and on this Viper it is not?

Yes, I understand what you are saying.. if anyone can figure out I would be all for trying to get it to work some other way but for now this works great.

I think its related to the Cat ECU and wiring vs. the Japan electronics. Could be an internal grounding or shielding issue on the Cat electronics.
I agree. And I think its related to how the starting system is wired seperate from the Kill Switch. Sorry for jumping on your topic and its a great fix for the guage but I think the same thing causes ECU hiccups which can cause hard starts and who knows what else. Your guage just showed something in wiring is different than previous Yamahas.Yes, I understand what you are saying.. if anyone can figure out I would be all for trying to get it to work some other way but for now this works great.
