any suggestions on breaking in a new apex? i know what yamaha suggests and there are a few know it alls around where i live that have never seen an apex before, they of course have there opinions about a little too much (die hard 2 strokers) i will of course be breaking trail for these people this year.
i would like these break-in secrets to come from people who have been there and done that, from people that know what they are talking about.

thanks guys

This question comes up quite often. My advice to you is to follow the procedure that Yamaha outlines in your owners manual. I've serviced many of these engines, and honestly I think the idea of breaking it in 'hard' is ill advised. there are some extremely tight tolerances on this motor.

how does the engine respond during breakin? I hear the more miles you get on it, the more it loosens up. I have about 180 miles on 07 apex mountain - at 100 miles engine seemed stronger. Will this keep improving or am I imagining this?

There will be plenty of time to show off. Respect your sled for the first season and allow it to settle in.
Unless of course you've got to rip it in order to stomp your 2 stroke buddies. The manual says 500kms in Canada. My RX1 mountain was hot out of the box but just felt better and better all season.
2500kms (1500 miles)first season. Second season I put an MBRP pipe on and played with clutching a bit. Third season...odds and ends, ie) LH throttle, new skis, riser block...all handling type stuff.
The 07' Apex Mountain saves you all the hassle. EFI makes it feel snappy and responsive right from the get go. Lightweight mtn. pipe sounds great. It has a riser, great skis and is balanced properly so LH throttle doesn't seem so important anymore. I've got 900kms (550 miles) on mine.
Unlike a two stroke which is snappy when it's cold...these sleds run better as they warm up. By the end of the run I just love how my sled handles and feels.

Just get on it and ride it. Thats what i do. I always run something how i plan to all the time. If i am going to be a rider that goes full throttle often or wants to be aggressive or sidehills a lot, then i will break the engine in according to my needs.

Just like my truck. planned to tow with it so i hooked a trailer to it on the dealers lot. Planned to race quite a bit, so i ran it hard.

People that i know break them in how they want to ride them, not how someone suggests.
