Time to see how good Yamaha warrenty is!

Thanks. Will keep an eye on that one for sure.It sounds like you two guys had two different types of failures. Both resulting in broke rod.

When will you be getting some sort of answer? I feel bad for you. Hope it all gets resolved.
Not sure, they said they will get to it as soon as they can, I dropped it off Wednesday and I'm waiting for a call but I'm not expecting it to happen to quick since it is snowmobile season. This place has a pretty good reputation hence the reason I bought from them (60 miles away) instead of the dealer 1 mile from my house which provided horrible service in the past. In all honesty I'm not expecting it back for about a month since Yamaha doesn't stock/sell complete motors where as Skidoo does. At least when my buddy blew his Etec 600 up they had shortblock on the shelf and he was out riding 4 days later. Now I have plenty of time to go through and paint up the GT A-arms I have to match my sled and have that stuff ready to go when I get it back.

Got a call, and the parts will be in Friday and I SHOULD have my sled back before christmas. I DID get a little grief for having an "aftermarket" oil filter, supertech ST6607, on the sled but it was a non-issue. The person that called didn't have much details except for that the Connecting Rod itself was the failure, it wasn't oil starved. I'm going to see If I can talk to the Actual Technician that is working on it to see exactly what went wrong when I pick it up. The person on the phone didn't know what "parts" were coming, so I don't know if they are just replacing the whole case, the crank, and 1 rod or the whole shortblock or longblock. I guess I will find out next week. On the plus side, I got to put 100 miles on the ol' Phazer II, its been awhile since I treated her to a fresh tank of 91 octane!

Got her back today. Basically a new short block was installed. The ROD itself failed, it cracked in half, there was no bearing or rodcap failure like others have experienced causing the rod to snap. Now off to put in some break-in miles on it.

sounds like you need a spare motor in the garage for your phazer...and i know where you can get one.

I didn't know you had a spare, yet? Do you still have a spare track, I think the 121x14 would work great on my old Phazer II. The thought of a spare motor is a great Idea, I had though about building a low boost pump gas turbo setup but I think I want to build a spare motor with aftermarket rods and lower compression pistons first. EVERY phazer engine failure I've found involves the rods being the weak link, especially boosted phazers.

I sold a guy one of my 84 Phazers and it broke a rod, which just hammered and sawed the case in half! Bottom of the cylinders, etc. It was ugly! I felt horrible for the guy, but he understood. My engine guy, and friend, gave him almost all the labor for nothing. How the heck can you tell if a rods going to break? X-Ray it before each ride?

Nothing you can do other than keeping rpms low.On quads we usually throw cranks away every two seasons.A-guys way more often than that.Just not worth chance rebuilding.I am going to believe this is at most a 1:100 thing.Really feel sorry for those it happened to but no mass produced product is 100%.Hopefully they send pieces back to Yamaha for analysis. If it makes anyone feel better in 07's it was the reduction gear as weak link.Seems like that problem is fixed so improvements are made we dont know about.

Yep, I didn't get to see the broken rod, the whole short block was on its way back to Yamaha already
