Let me just mention this. I would call myself mechanically inclined, but I am still new to the inner workings/terminology with snowmobiles.
Anyway, I took my sled into the dealer for service bulletins and to get the recall taken care of. I just got off the phone with them today and they said I wore my "skid rails" down and the hyfax is worn and that i need: skid rails, end caps, hyfax, and a couple other things all replaced. They said out the door it is going to cost $715!!! I'll be the first to admit I wasn't keeing an eye on my slides.
But, what did I do here? I have about 1100 miles on my sled. Does this price seem too high? I am stopping by after work to have them explain it to me. Anyone have any input?

i have 1100 mi. on the 07' phazer fx and the hyfax are still 3/4, first thing i did when it was new was pull up one hole on the limiter strap, loosen the track just so it wouldn't rachet, if you don't get anywhere with the dealer, call yamaha, they'll work with you, good luck
I still dont even really know wxactly what they were trying to explain to me. I will have a better idea when I stop by there.
You think Yamaha will cover any of it. Isn't this mainly user error?

maybe so, but if you have a good dealer, they can usually get alot of it covered, you might have to eat the labor

rails are around 250-300 a pice some times. end caps 30-40 and hyfax 40 a set. with labor yea thats about right. take a look at the rails ur self take a pic if possible. they may be word but it depends on how much. they still might be plenty for the hyfax to grab and they are just trying to get a an extra 500 bucks out of u. hyfax are very importaint to check. ive done a ton of sleds at work where the hyfax come in where they are so word the sides bow out or are stringed out and the rails are toast.
Ok, I went to the dealer to check it out. Its where the rails curve upward toward the front the the skid. They are chewed to hell. I definitely need new rails. The rails are $157 each from Port Yamaha. Total in parts I priced out $400 before shipping. The dealer told me 440 in parts. That is probably including shipping. Unless I'm missing some stuff.
I'm thinking about saving $300 and trying it myself. I've pulled the motor in my car a couple times and do all the work on it. I think I can tackle disassembling the skid. I also have the Phazer service manual as well.
I will definitely be keeping a better eye on these things int he future.

There is a thread about lowsnow wheels.Yamaha offers them. They are small wheels that go in front right where your wear happened.I got 2000miles off my slides and in one ride on really hardpacked trail they wore bad right in area your talking of.Low snow wheels are a good investment.

Yamaha gave the low snow wheels to Venture lite and mp owners so maybe if you complained they would do it for the phazer owners as well. Topper

A very quick and easy way to check your hyfax is to use the open end of a wrench as a go-nogo gauge. 10mm is nogo and if you can slip the open end of a 10mm over any point of the hyfax along the rail it's time to replace the hyfax like immediately.Phazed said:I will definitely be keeping a better eye on these things in the future.
Hope this helps for the future.

Sure wish I knew what you were saying, I'd like to check this on my sled, but I don't know what you mean.

Just tried to search that number on Port Yamaha and nothing came up. It needs another '-00' on the end. Just an FYI. It should be SMA-8FA95-00-00.
I think I will be ordering this kit with my new rails and slides.
