Just bought an 06 apex!! 4k miles, needs a new drive shaft bearing and new hifax though. (Atleast this is what I can see on initial analysis), Picked it up for $2900 as guy was desperate and it needs some work to get on trail. Track is pretty beat too, I'm probably going to replace after I start going through everything.
Thanks for all the advice, you'll be hearing lots from me in coming months. I'll post more pics after I bring it home next weekend. Sled is currently upstate NY. (I live in LI).

BTW how can I run the VIN? Is there a way to do on Yamaha website?

I hope so. I brought a friend with me, but I'm dying to bring sled home so I can really go through it.

Anyone ride in Albany/Troy area? I plan on taking a few trips to tughill and speculator areas as well.

Im from Saratoga man.. When you plan on the trips let me know! probably not for another couple weeks though :o| sounds like you picked up a good deal.

Sounds like a great deal and I'm not trying to be a killjoy, but needing what you say it needs already doesn't sound right with that little mileage on it?

Imo, I'd got over the sled with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything is A-one before hitting the trails.

Good luck.

Don't think you are a killjoy at all. I've had same thoughts. However, drive shaft bearing being bad isn't unusual. And I've read others replacing track/hyfax' @ 4k miles. Right? To tell you the truth I'm expecting to finding something else wrong, once I strip this thing down and pull everything apart. I like fixing things, hopefully it's nothing to expensive. I'm definately a noob with the sleds, but I'm sure I'll catch on quick. Especially if I got to start fixing things right off the get go. :).

Thanks again for the advice guys.

And the Apex Chassis sleds are easy to pull apart and wrench on. It's actually kind of fun to pull these sleds apart and put them back together.

Nothing strange about replacing a drive shaft bearing at 4k miles IMHO. And even if it was salvageable with a regrease, never hurts to have a new one. Consensus is to replace with Yamaha bearings as most after market bearings are vastly inferior.

And when your in there and have it all taken apart your smart to replace the drive shaft too as those have a life expectancy of somewhere's between 5k miles and maybe 7k miles. Your close enough that I'd just replace it.

And tracks are tracks. If the guy spun it alot or didn't care for it, it may just need replacing. I've heard what a track can do when it comes apart at 80+ mph and it can be quite expensive. If the track is anywhere near shot, I'd just replace and not think twice.

Good luck with the sled. I'm sure once you get a few things replaced and fixed you'll have many happy miles on it.

I'd take it at $2900 depending on what the oils looked like. As long as the motor is good you can do a lot with $3k improving weight and performance and have a helluva a sled for $5900 - as long as the motor doesn't pop.

Check the front end geometry
Check the donuts
Might as well consider an exhaust
Rebuild the shocks
Powder coat the skid
Change the bushings

I picked mine up for $3800 and was in good looking condition, but really needed a lot of maint. I was able to get it back up to par for around $1500. then didn't stop after that.

price sounds good just as said previously go over it with a fine tooth comb
