This year on the most prime, hardpacked trail (really it was a double lane seasonal road) 5 mile long, could only pull 102mph on my speedometer. That was in the best of best conditions, rpms were right at 8600. Any type of loose snow and I am at 92mph max, more like 90mph. Last year in good conditions I could easily pull 108mph at 9100 rpm (added some weight this year to bring the r's down a bit). I know conditions can vary and speed is only relative, but it sure seems to be a bit slow this year. The clutches, bearings, hyfax, track tension, etc are all in great condition / set to spec. Do you think being just a bit off of the powerband at 9000+ rpm contributed to a greater top end that I saw last year? It seems to idle a bit rougher than it did last year too. Would carbs being a bit out of sync shave performance from the top end? I have not synced them yet. Seemed good last year. Drained the fuel last spring too so it isn't from plugged main jets or pilots or anything like that. New belt riding above the secondary like it should, checked clutch offset and alignment and all is good. Mileage is the same as last year. Replaced exhaust donuts, too.

I have an 07 vector, my rpm usually run about 86-8800. My sled will consistantly run 103-108 on speedo on a hardpack froze down good trail, it showed 114 on lake with 1/2 of loose snow. usually will show 102-103 in decent somewhat loose snow.
I tried it on a groomed race track that had had quite a bit of traffic so it was starting to soften a bit.
1st run showed 108 on speedo showed 95 on stalker radar gun.
2nd run showed 108 on speedo showed 97 on gun.

I think if I had of been there in the morning for the first runs I might of showed 100 mph on the gun.

Adding the weight took your top end away.

That is what I was thinking. Even though it makes peak hp @ 8600rpm there is only a very slight drop-off in hp levels in the 8800-9000rpm range. So perhaps the added rpm's are why I was seeing higher top speeds last year with a minimal loss in hp. What type of rpm's are you turning on your Vector? The instructions that came with my clutch kit said to run it at 8400-8600 for best performance. That is why I fine tuned it this year for lower rpm's.

Thanks for your reply dooboy. Sound like my speeds were not all that unusual for a relatively stock Vector. I have also heard that the DBII Vectors are a bit slower on top end than the DBI's. It is amazing that today's 120hp machines have trouble breaking the 100mph barrier (gps / radar measured). My cousin's 125hp Polaris is no different, it has never hit an honest 100mph.

I'm not sure on the RPM's for the Vector, I haven't ridden it this year, have I said lately that I love the Nytro?!!

got my 09 ltx to 111 mph on speedo tonight, the conditions are perfect, the trails are very hard with a dusting of snow, its the fastest so far this year, usually its around 108,

What rpm's are you seeing on a hard trail?

8400 rpm all the time, its a tad low but it pulls good so i aint touching it

Those are some really good speeds then. I can't even touch 105 on the hardest, flattest, best mph trails this year.

I had a simular situation with my 05 vector this year, but the problem was resolved after i blew the strap :jump: . Took almost 15 min to change :die because the cords were stuck in the secondary and it wouldn't open. I cant believe that the strap lasted only 11000 km :jump: ,but performance was back

107 on the lakes prior to gear down & clutch kit, now 95 mph and 8500 RPM. I like the stronger pull corner to corner vs higher top speeds.

106-108 indicated with ulmer stage 2 same setting from ulmer at 8500-8600

I am looking to replaced the y pipe if there is anny gain
