So my daughter and son in law pick up a mint 2005 vector with 236 miles. It had been serviced by a good dealer I'm familiar with, but the good guys don't always do the mundane tasks. The belt was flat spotted....probably loading it...at some point, but for the price...well under 2800...lol...for a new sled....???... worth twice that in new parts....anyway, we finally got snow here but our trails were closed, however we own our grass drag strip and have a mile road course for testing. I'm running the gas down with stabil and just beating on them (ski doos too) for storage. It runs great but backfired and code 84 Tors....a lot....so I lowered the idle and it only did it once since...put maybe 40 miles on. It is so tight compared to mine...lol..even a tad faster, but I haven't looked at my belt in a while..probably down in the pulley. Now, our old identical vector with 6000 miles never did it once. .ever. I know about the bypass, but was there ever a definitive solution to these sleds?? I've read it all but it's been over 10 years of tors issues. Again, 2rx1's, apex, 08 vector, 2 nytros...pre-bug nytros...vectors really.....never once a tors code.
My concern is that backfiring will surely raise attention to our track as satellites can track my excessive CO2 emissions, and the commies will be after me. Even after record cold April temps...it's just weather...lol...oh, and a note to faster sidewinder buyers...on our drag strip I hit a hundred or so (apex) holding my phone in my left hand taking a video...lmao....if a cat chassis is that planted at high speeds I just might consider one!

Those first year (2005) Vectors had an issue with setting that code 84 (TORS) due to the ECU's parameters for setting the code being to tight and at times falsely tripping the code during normal operating conditions - it was only cured by an ECU replacement which back in the day Yamaha had an update and replaced them if they had the issue - To tell if it was ever updated you look at the back of it and it is stamped with an 8ES-00 it is the original style and if it has an 8ET-10 it has been updated.

Thank you...makes sense considering all the fixes that didn't really work. I suppose it's too old now for a replacement ecu by Yamaha.....I told my daughter if it continues we will just bypass it.
Since mine never did it I'll check that too....last frozen throttle I had was on a 1971 skiroule s300.

Not sure you can just bypass it on those as that was the first year they used a tps sensor (previously used a on/off switch on carb) as an input for the tors system - if you need an updated ecu let me know as I have the part number and to my knowledge even though yamaha wouldn't update it for free at this point I believe they left the pricing very reasonable on the updated part.

Thanks again!...I will take a look at the ecu today! Assuming her other new 'baby'....our granddaughter we watch...cooperates!

Exactly what happened to my 05 Vector. Code 84 would not leave me alone and came close to several rear end hits by sleds behind me. After three visits to my dealer, they ended up replacing the ECU under warranty. Never had a problem again.
