Hey guys this is a great site for help so I'm in need of a little. Sometimes my 05 rx1 will get stubborn and start going into the T.O.R.S. saftey mode and backfire then the problem goes away. This happened in the U.P. of Michigan for a few miles, then we stopped for gas. After it didn't do it for the rest of the trip. Last night while adjusting my track in a heated barn, it started to do it again. I inspected the throttle lever but I don't really know what to look for. Anybody have a little help so I can fix the problem before I go north again? Greatly appreciate it. Big d

Try spraying a little shot of lube where the pin for the throttle goes through the throttle block,this is where the switch for the TORS is located.It is spring loaded and might of dried up or rusted a little from some moisture that might have gotten in there.Just my .02

on the carbs where the throttle cable threads into the bracket is the adjustment for freeplay. loosen the 10mm locknut and thread the adjuster in to allow more slack in the cable, retighten locknut. if it acts up on the trail it can be bypassed easily. two wires from the carbs on top plug into two wires from the harness. unplug both and connect the two harness wires together. tors is then bypassed.

Take a look at the throttle block where the cable enters into. Sometimes the cable will pull out a bit and bind causing the cable to be shorter than usual. One other option is to disconnect the TORS and keep your fingers crossed nothing freezes up.

Other than for a trailside energency, you may not want to bypass TORS. I had a throttle cable freeze once. It is not a pretty sight lifting a ZR's hood and pulling back the throttles while going down the trail.
Basically you have to put slightly more freeplay in the throttle cable by adjusting the cable at the carbs. It is explained in your Owner's Manual. Or, if you are not able to find it, you may want to do a search on "TORS" on this site. But, the Owners Manaul would be quicker.

Sounds like the same problem I had with my '05 RS. There was a tech update that either updates or replaced the CDI that fixed it.

I bypassed TORS and other than a situation where the throttlle sticks WOT and Im not on the sled I wouldnt worry about it . if you keep having problems with it after adjusting the throttle cable search for TORS BYPASS and youll find plenty of threads - not to throw you no bone on how to do it im just lazy
