OK,I'm sure some of you guys will know this but it may help some also. I had the dreaded ratcheting noise at the start also, kept checking track an chain tension every day, then noticed (at approx 150 miles) to get correct chain tension I had to also back off plastic washer behind jam nut, found out bolt could screw in 1/2-3/4 turn farther (finger tight), thinking back I have not heard the ratchet noise after that, could it have been the chain all along? I'm gonna loosen the track off to see how loose I can run it now, may just solve some problems. I now have 300 miles, what do you guys know/think about this.

I tightened my track close to spec and it was squeaking when I rolled to a stop. Since then, I back it off quite a bit. It doesn't ratchet anymore and it rolls to a smooth stop! In the chaincase, it was my understanding to tighten finger tight and back it off 1/4 turn. Maybe in your case that washer was preventing you from getting it finger tight!! Did you tighten it more with a wrench or your fingers??? I had my chaincase ratchet before and believe me, you'll know it!!!! It sounds aweful! Not only that, my motor had far less torque than this beast and it would ratchet everywhere. Especially taking off it would hardly accelerate!!!!! All you could hear was the chain jumping teeth and the track would barely get the sled rolling forward. The track never had the chance to ratchet, that's how we figured it out!!!

I forgot to tighten locknut on my SX700 and the tensioner loosened. In my case it was impossible to mistake for track ratcheting....

If u look at the chaincase oil or the magnet in there. You will se that there are alot of metal chips if there has been ratcheting on the chain.

If u have had ratcheting in the chaincase, you should take it apart and check the chain and sprockets... And change the oil.

Good Luck!

HAD A BUDDY THATS CHAIN RATCHETED AND WAS VERY LOOSE AFTER 150 MILES HAVE TIGHTENED IT TWICE IN 300 MILES

ya, sky the washer was making the bolt feel like it was tight, finger tight.
