I have a bud I ride with that has a problem.
He has a 2005 Warrior. Last night, he noticed that 80% of his track clips are gone(Ripsaw). Then, he checked the remaining ones...and the guide part of the clip that runs against the hyfax are broke. This dmg all happen while we were up in Muni last weekend, so for those that were there...you know the condidtions we were on.
Has anyone ever seen this before? Could this be a product of a broken w-arm?
Any suggestions on what to look for or do would be great!

While I can't say that it is a broken W-arm that has caused these clips to break, I would definately look over the suspension very carefully. IMO, take it right out to inspect it.
How many miles are on the track?
Also, check track tension as too tight will increase wear and tear.

It has about 1600 miles on the sled. We are going to take it totally out this weekend.....just trying to see if anyone has seen this on their Warriors or RX-1's before.

I had my mono apart this year and I noticed that my clips and track had a lot of wear. I also noticed that when I aligned the track, the front would not be in the same alignment as the rear. I took it to the dealer and they are replacing the W arm (bent thus not allowing the track to align in uniform), BOTH rails with the 06 rails, and my drive cogs (I am going to put the mountain ones on for the few bucks more they cost)
All this (except the $25.00 difference in cost on the cogs ) is covered under warranty. If you have a good dealer, take it to them. He said I was better of getting the 06 rails than the 05 update kit (plates)
Only thing Yami would not cover was the track. I have divots running down the inside of it dead center and the clips are shot. The dealer I bought the sled from (different dealer than doing the warranty work) set it up wrong causing all the premature wear. Unfortunately I had 2300 miles on the sled from last season and did not notice the track wear until this season. if I had seen it with lower miles I most likely would have a new track as well. I told him to put a new track in it anyhow since all the labor is covered due to the bad cogs. So for the cost of the track I will have a 06 skid under it. I think it's worth it.
Take it to your dealer and see what they say. Yami KNOWS there were issues with the 05 skid by now.

If you were riding much in that SNIRT like what I ran into around Shingleton and the hills going out west of Munising, then you probably just wore them out. There were a lot of other SNIRT trails that were miles long around Muising. You may want to figure out the backroads and 2-tracks to get around that stuff. I did 532 miles this Friday & Saturday. Only got forced into the SNIRT by Shingleton.
Also, if you riding on the icey roads up there, you got to frequently kick up or get some snow in the track. The 1 1/4" lug tracks are more sensative to thin snow than the older ~ 1" tracks.
Good luck. Re Clip er. With the right tool, it is not that hard.

Upon inspecting my shid from 05 RX1 at the 2000 mile mark, I was missing 2 large lugs and 3 clips from the track. The sliders were not bad shape. I am not sure why this happened because I am riding groomed trails with snow and off the trail for more snow to collect and cool sliders, heat exchangers, etc. My 03 RX1 had 1.25 Ripsaw put on and traded it with 5200 miles, very little wear. Maybe the tracks are becoming poorer quality because of tender to Yamaha.

I do notice that in comparison to other sleds I ride with (cats) that my suspension always looks bare, unless there is a lot of fresh powder on the trails. If they are groomed or hardpacked at all, there is NO snow in the suspension.

what are you running for drivers? stock or anti ratchet?
I lost about 2/3 of the clips on the track on my viper when i installed antiratchet drivers. i hated the things(drivers) nothing but problems. i have lost a clip here and there on a few tracks but nothing like you speak of other than with the anti ratchet drivers.
i am thinking that maybe the track is too tight or possibly the drivers are out of alignment and the clips are getting pounded off. take a look and make sure everything is aligned properly
