Just got back from 6 days in the mountains. Sled ran great never touched it for 700 miles. But the track lugs are just about folded in half why is it we can spend $10k for a sled and still need to spend money on them? Is Yamaha doing anything about these tracks? Also both of the spring holders behind the center outside idler wheels are broke is this common?

Track is very soft and almost everyone has had problems with the paddles folding over.
Never heard anything about the torsion spring holders.

Did the 08 Mtx do this also and how do we get Yamaha to step up and take care of this?

Yes the 08 did. Its the stock Maverick track on all the MTX Nytros.
I think some people did get their dealers to Warranty it, but most didn't.
Most have put on Challenger or PowerClaw tracks on and haven't looked back.

i have had one of the spring retainers break. you need to make sure they are flipped back over the springs.
they can be flipped forward to remove the springs from the holder. sometimes kicking snow out, or not having them set all the way backward from working on it in the garage or something, will cause them to be pushed forward by the spring.
then bad things can happen if you dont catch it.
the maverick track is a pos. sell it for 150 and buy a challenger or powerclaw. snowest is full of them at times (take off m8 challengers are good tracks).
lots of guys try to sell the mav for more, but it will take awhile to sell them for much more than 150.00. i had 2 of them for sale 150ea shipped in the lower 48 (shipped) and it took me about 3 weeks to sell them both.
i get a chuckle out of the guys asking 350-400 for them. ski

I'm sure thats what I'll have to do. I'm not done with my dealer yet. If they had this problem last year why would they do such a stupid thing as use it again and take the chance of looseing more Yamaha riders? A week in the mouintains and I think I saw a total of 3 other Nytros one with a turbo and lots of the other guys. I have been a Yamaha faithful for many years ride Yamaha bikes and even have a Yamaha snow blower but it could change real easy. YAMAHA GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOU A**!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, my buddy bought an 08 MTX from Rock River Powersports in Jefferson, WI and called them about his track folding over like a wet leaf. They said that they had never heard of a problem with the Maverick tracks???????
Anyway, they called their Yamaha rep and the rep told him to tell my buddy that all he needs to do is lift the rear of the sled, run the track around a few times and the lugs will straighten out.
Hello..........???????
Do the right
thing and replace these pos tracks.

What a brillant statement from Yamaha! I have my sled in the air now and yes the lugs do straigting out now we if we could only ride on air ! This is a very serious problem and Yamaha better step up and make amends with the few Yamaha people that are left. I did not buy this to sit on a stand. I know yamaha does not build the track but camoplast does build it to yamaha standards and they suck on this track!
It's no different than Firestone tires on Ford Explorers.
Until that POS track kills somebody, it's yer baby. If it's not unsafe, it's not an issue - I work in the oilfield... I KNOW!
AC Powerclaw... no explanations, no regrets, no lookin' back! Same story with the Camo Extreme....

Hey Moto..
Our guide at Togwotee this January was riding an M8 with the 153" Powerclaw and I got to ride a M1000 with a 162" Powerclaw as well. Loved the track and hook-up with the Powerclaw. I have no experience with the CE...only the old Challengers.
2 questions:
Would you recommend 162 or 153?
Powerclaw or CE??
The sled DOES NOT HAVE BOOST.........Yet...

Thanks for the reply Moto. I don't think my buddy is going to sit around and wait for Yamaha to step up to the plate and recall his Maverick.
I like your fab work on your sled. I do CNC machining for a living and can really respect the art of good fab work.
Curious about where you ride in WY and what gearing you are running with an NA Nytro??
I have finally been convinced to upgrade my mountain sled for next year and the only decision I have to start with is 153" SE or 162" SE......
BTW, is anyone looking for a piped 151" viper that thinks it's a billy goat???

Thanks for the compliments - it's a labor of love.
I am running 19/40 gears, but while hangin' out with the Yammi test riders last December, it was recommended by them to try the 18 upper. I haven't done it yet, but I will.
We ride the Bighorn Mtns mostly, but hit Togwotee and Cooke City MT as well throughout the season.
With Yammi's tipped rails, I recommend the 162. The trails are like you are riding a 144" and the deep is like a.... well.... riding a 162!!!

Well given that they prob dont sell a whole lot of MTN sleds they prob havent heard of it, I know they are super good on service so I'm sure they would do all they can to help.

No intention of bashing RRPS here. I went with my buddy to pick up the sled when he bought it and they were extremely nice people. I was just really taken back by the fact that they are such a large Yammi dealer and had never heard of this problem. I understand that they didn't spec out the track for the MTX's, but to tell a customer to jack the sled up, spin the track and everything would be fine was laughable. I would have thought they would have offered a better solution or said that they would follow up with Yamaha for an acceptable solution to the problem. i.e. a new track. But like Moto said, Firestone and Ford.....most likely nothing is going to happen from Yamaha's end of the deal.
