So what do you guys run for track tension? I Just reset mine after getting it back from the dealer. Seemed way to tight the sled started acting like a brake was on. Read the manual and talked to a friend and he said just run it loose if it rachets tighten alittle. Then You'll get the most power to the ground without wasting it on friction. Made sense so I tried it. Now it sit about a inch away from the slides midway up the track. When I got it back wouldn't even come away from the slides.

yea the dealer set that way to tight, it should be about 1 1/4- 1 5/8 max

dealers always set the track tension too tight.. almost as they are afraid of something

With the track off the ground, you should be able to push the track away from the front bend in the hyfax easily with one finger. If not, its too tight. That's the spot where its going to drag and wear the most.
The manual calls for about an inch of sag at the center of the track with something like 7 or 10 pounds pulling down. I usually set up for twice that and never have any problems.
My buddy sets up exactly the same and has 2800 miles on the stock hyfax on a 800 REV.
Loose is good.

Maybe they're afraid of the track coming off the rails, getting hooked on the track adjuster and causing all sorts of problems.teerex said:dealers always set the track tension too tight.. almost as they are afraid of something![]()

For what it's worth, I also run my tracks really loose.

I also run my tracks relatively loose. I did have this problem as well when taking delivery of my sleds. I noticed the tracks were too tight and burning up hyfax quickly!
I was told that the Yamaha spec is way too tight, so if your dealer is setting tension to the OEM spec it is extremely tight.
I did the same, loosended the track then tightened until it just stops ratcheting. I have put on about 500 miles since, no problems, and can notice a significant difference in track resistance.
