Here is a quick pic from last year
Wow, so those 1.6s in center area never even touched louvers? That is great to hear. There is definitely more vulnerability at rear of tunnel....as the sled/skid goes through its motion and is very active out back in comparison to the front of skid.
But its always nice to see someone run it and show he has no hits....
great to know for future, sure seems these tunnels can take a very long stud without touching.
Thanks for info and pic. This is what makes the site great, sharing info.

IDK.......guess ill be running the 1.5's this season. Might even try the super-lite pro backers. What do I have to lose?

I think with the longer studs, track tension needs to be watched more closely. Sj kept pushing me to go longer. He was right. I was scared. Lol!

I had very bad luck with the super lite pro backers in my nytro. Never again. I installed just like they wanted. They Would strip out when trying to suck the stud into the track and loosened up in no time.

At worst I have almost an inch of clearance all the way around in the front. Not one louver was touched. We don't run the tracks tight. But they are checked before the start of each day. 1.86" studs would be interesting.
The cat turbos have been running long studs for years.

I remember reading tricks to install. Maybe warm water or something. I'll see what I can find.
Anyone know tricks to install super-lite backers?

Yes! Tap them just half way thru and forget about warm water, just use soapy water, you'll be golden.
I tried them without tapping half way and they would not tighten up properly without stripping.
I also would not use any type of air impact at all. I used just an electric drill to install into all double backer Pro-Lites to sink the head into the rubber. then finished up by hand using a ratchet to index the square shank tipped 1.45" Woody's Megabites.
I found them to take less time, and were less hassle than using std. alum backers and nuts on the indexed Megabites.
I like them soo much on my Turbo 1200 I'm putting them on my SideWinder as well. I'll only use them in double backers however for the added paddle effect. IMO the singles are rather worthless as a paddle.

How big of a pain is it to have all the square heads indexed the same way? Versus installing a traditional stud?192 1.575 megabites View attachment 133264

Quite a big pain for sure. Its worse using std alum backers I can tell ya.
Much easier when using Pro-Lite backers and no nuts.

having used them before I can attest they work..however....to me it isnt worth the risk...my buddy must have hit a rock or maybe a rail crossing and we assume it cracked the plastic and ended up throwing a stud into the cooler on a 1100t...luckily figured out before smoking a motor.....with the huge rear cooler ...not worth the risk imho
