After going over the viper I hope to hell I don't blow a drive belt out on the trail! It looks like you will need to tear half the sled apart to change it. So much for a quick switch

Actually it is real quick. Press in on the helix with one hand and press down on the belt with the other. Pretty soon it will be far enough down that you can just pop the belt. Same thing when putting it back on

It is pretty quick actually just got my sled yesterday and the dealer did it I'm about 1 minute to be honest ... Plus it's a Yamaha we don't have to change belts often

Try it with a purple spring in the secondary, not quite so easy!!!
Although i must say the belt and clutches run quite cool even with the turbo

you could always add the quick change belt tool to make it easier on that spring. Ulmer has them.wacker said:Try it with a purple spring in the secondary, not quite so easy!!!

Put a wrench on one of the helix bolts and turn it a bit if you can't do it by hand. Belt comes right off.

I did it in about 30 seconds with a six pack in me. I'm sure it will be harder on the trail with frozen fingers. Oh wait we have cat handwarmers we won't have frozen fingers! Lol

Not so much about changing the belt but has anyone ever seen or experienced what happens to the cat brake system when you blow a belt?

Yup you will have little chicklets jammed down around the rotor, thats why most of us who have miles on them, add a rotor cover.Mazz said:Not so much about changing the belt but has anyone ever seen or experienced what happens to the cat brake system when you blow a belt?

It's not near as easy as the old yamahas with a belt gaurd that came off out of way with a pin, instead of needing wrenchs. Seems like it's gonna suck if you have to do it along the trail

Didn't pull the pin on a viper myself but after looking over Yamacat21's I think a nut driver with a six inch shank would be an easy addition to my tool kit so you could "quickly/easily" remove the clutch guard.

You do not have to remove the clutch guard.
