The 2009 SE I bought came with a trail tank. Is there any way to tell if it is first or second generation??

Anyone running a trail tank with the yamaha tunnel braces? They don't seem to fit under neath the tank.

If you knew the date it was ordered/manufactured that is one way of knowing which gen it is. Or you'll have to look at the front bottom corners of it to see if it has extra room for the muffler heat shield on the front left corner, and it should have extra room on the front right corner for the MTX heat exchanger kit. It it is modified for these two things, then you'll have latest generation.

If it is the first gen. and hasn't had the updated heat material installed, it will probably be melted a little on the front left corner.

You can send a picture of it to seth at trailtank, and he can tell you which it is also. If you don't have the new and old trail tanks sitting next to each other, its hard to tell which one is which unless you know what you're looking for...

1st generation had smaller size fasteners. Can't recall what they were.Someone on here will know. :rocks:
Also contact Seth at trail tank, great guy to deal with.

Thanks for the info guys.

It is not melted on the front left corner, it's covered in heat shield. I can get my pinky under it in the corner so there is a gap. Also the sled has the MTX heat exchanger, so this might be the 2nd generation. I've got it for sale locally and a guy wanted to know if it was the newer style.

Maybe some one can tell from the pic....

Sounds like you have the 2nd gen tank if the mtx heat exchanger fits with no rubbing.

How come you are selling it? Trying to loose some weight?

I really don't have a need for it, I'm not a high mile trail rider. So you nailed it why carry the extra fuel weight if I'm not going to need it. I know I could just put less fuel in it but I might as well sell it to someone that will make use of it and spend the cash on something I will use.

....also it does not seem to work well with the Yamaha tunnel braces I bought. I might be able to lift the tank and slip then underneath but they seem to want to occupy the same space.

new tank has 5mm thumb screws

yeah the trail tank is a tight fit in there. I wouldn't try to squeeze anything under it. It barely fits as it is.

I could probably get by with the stock tank...but I almost ran out all the time and the anxiety of almost running out of gas would ruin my day! lol
