If their is anybody on the fence about getting a new tank ,,,,dont hesatate,I bought a tank last Aug for 09 xtx,,,install went fine ,season went fine 0 issues,,,,Early pre season look over noticed a slight melting spot on front left side of tank?? remember this tank was one of his first tanks 1st gen..I talked to seth emailed some pics ,,,,new tank on the way thank you, Seth at Trail Tank. never had fuel issues running out 130 miles not a problem......

Installed my tank a month or so ago. Can't wait for snow.
Tank fit great. Just a little elbow grease when pushing forward to install the rear bolds. Looks factory.

I have had mixed thoughts about my trail tank. Factory plastics didn't fit over the tank so im left with the tank and center plastic over the top of the tank. Yamaha installers did not cut the vent line; instead they looped the line down one side of the tank and then back up... crimping the line which allowed major pressure build up... enough to make the tank expand and retract and pull and distort plastics and anchors. Due to excess heat cause by the 80/20 factory coolant mix. To sum it up I am happy with the added fuel mileage, but not so much with the install nor the look of the finished product. It may be first gen... i'm not sure... don't really care. I just have it for extra juice in the tank, so it serves its purpose. ;-) Just disappointed with myself and my dealer for not catching the overheating issue and cutting the coolant down earlier. Hope there are no long term issues. And my dealer decided to flush the fluids at my expense. Needless to say, that's my last $320 trip to that yamaha dealership for "Factory Service".

When the stock tank came off was the line crimped? Or was it only crimped after you installed the Trail Tank?

A lot of people here have installed a Trail Tank with this stock breather routing. I have never heard of anyone having the issue you are describing. As a matter of fact, this clip prevents it from crimping as you describe as does the coil spring around it:

Did you perhaps remove the spring or clip? From my picture I think I might have it upside down from one of the 10 times I've had the tank on and off, putting addition stress on it, and mine still hasn't crimped.

I have a trail tank on the way just wondering how the fuel gauge is reading after install is reading proper.

My yami installers took the coil off and just hand routed it around... no clip.

Let me start by saying my tank was installed by a dealer before I ever got the sled and is probably a first gen tank ... so I have no idea how the original install went. Except that some of the holes in the plastic were reamed out to make them line up.
After reading what others were saying about how easy the tank goes in when new, I would have to say it does swell (expand) over time. I took mine off to do some work and when re-installing had to use a car jack to get it the last 1/4" so that the seat holes and plastic holes would be close enough to put it back together.
I'm not sure the added fuel has ever helped me yet because the fuel gauge is still calibrated to the stock tank. When the fuel light comes on at about 100 to 110 miles it only takes about 7 gal of fuel. So when everyone else needs fuel I get fuel. I do like the sense of security knowing I have the extra range if needed. Over-all I am not overly impressed with the fit of the tank but, it is ok.

Got 2 tanks at Hay Days installation went well. Very good quality and they look good on the leds. No complaints no issues.
