I have about 400 miles on my trail tank and love the extra miles it provides. I ran into some overheat issues the other day on hard trails and had a hard time getting the yellow light to go out plus I kept hearing an intake or exhaust noise. When I pulled the sled over to kick some snow (after I broke it up) under the skid to help lubricate the sliders and some help for the front cooler. I decided to pull the front cover off and check the throttle body connections for any loose connections, because of the noise I was hearing. Everything was tight. When I went to put the front cover back on the Dzus connections were 2 " from connecting WTF. I checked the front cover and it was under the headlight and the front nose like its suppose to be. I then realized the trail tank looked bigger. So I started to pull the gas cap and she started hissing after just cracking it for at least 2 minutes before I could get it off. The gas was boiling inside the tank WOW!!!. I let everything cool down for 15 minutes and then headed off 30 miles back to the trailer (yellow light did not come back on). I pulled seat, gas tank, and exhaust. Front exhaust donuts were leaking(extra heat under trail tank), but the big issue was the vent line was crimped and the trail tank couldn't vent so pressurizing. I have ordered copper donuts, ice scratchers, and rerouted the vent line. Make sure when installing the trail tank your vent line and any wires are relocated so you don't have these issues.

I bought a used trail tank (newer generation). Thanks for the heads up.

I know my tank is venting because when I fill it too much, gas pours out onto my running boards from the vent line. To help my overheat issues while trail riding I installed the MountainTech rear cooler. I have only seen the temp light once since then.

It helps to route the vent line line a couple of times around the steering stem then back down the left side.

I ended up making a loop down the right side.

I have the same issue…..put a extra heat exchanger and good set of ice scratcher (one that mount under the running boards) and haven't see that light since. Well until I put a stud through my front heat exchanger

the problem is….the trail tank takes up all the room behind the rad and it can;t get fresh air….i've seen guys make spacer kit to allow more air in….I guess it's what you give up for more gas...

I have never seen my overheat light. I hope it doesn't come on when I install the trail tank. I won't put it on until this fall.

Thanks for the heads up on this one.
This is my first season with the new tank. No issues.
Last summer I put in the console vent from MoFlo that allows better air flow under the hood into the rad, also when at idle the rad fan can draw down cold air through the vent and not boil.
For sure the cavity behind the rad is much smaller because of the tank, but at least its drawing on cold air instead of hot air, that makes a huge difference.
So I haven't noticed any heat related issues since upgrading.
