I know this is an old thread but I thought I would share my experience with LinQ tank. Went to the UP last week and the trails in Munising were like glass. Needless to say I ran the Nytro Xtx for about 10 minutes at 80 mph plus. Pushing it pretty hard. It melted the LinQ tank like a stick of butter. This is the second LinQ tank ice went through. I've you don't run it real hard it will work. I had over 500 miles on my previous tank and only melted it when temps were warmer. This one melted down at 12 degrees and 85 mph, so if anyone has a tour buddy for sale let me know.

Very nice setup. I am still running the stock exhaust with the Yamaha turn out. I tried the skinz under tunnel briefly but it created a lot of ice. Without the stock exhaust I'm sure it could be made to work just fine I had a similar heat shield and the exhaust heat still got around and melted the corner of the tank. This also happen after a long open stretch to the bridge on a warmer day the first time. I tried to load some pictures and the files are to big. What kind of pipe is that? It looks like it has a slightly forward output. Nice setup and thank you for the pictures .

Thanks for the feedback Rob. I was actually just considering buying a LinQ tank. I'm thinking about going with no turn out, but making a custom aluminum heat shield that will be fixed to the tank. Thinking about spacing it about 1/4" off with rubber grommets of some kind, and fixing it on by the handle. Was going to weld it up out of aluminum to fit exact- almost like a slip on aluminum cover for the side and top where exhaust will hit. Any thoughts?

why do you need extra fuel I rode the U.P. last week and had plenty of fuel passed two gas stops ... do you go off trail a lot or just better safe than sorry?

With a heat shield that extends slightly past the tank edge or even around it, it should work.
I am usually on my last bar while most others are just below if not at half. I do abuse the fun flipper though. But, isn't that what its for. The XTX begs for it!

Thanks. I made it from a piece of exhaust off a tractor at work. Cut the end of the stack off, slit it down the middle about an inch and reshaped it on an anvil to fit over the outside of my exhaust. Being Hindle, there is no way to attach the elbow to the pipe so it is mounted with its own mounting stem down to the tunnel and one through into the heat plate I made as seen in the pics. Very sturdy and strong. I've been doing VERY long pulls (radar runs, etc) just to see how warm the shielding gets and it has been ice cold with the way the two are shaped. Only thing is watch your right pant leg, tends to melt VERY fast when hot dogging in the powder and you drape your leg beside it at full throttle lol.
