I did a little searching and did not find any threads on transfering the YES warranty from one owner to the next. I am picking up an 09' Phazer this weekend that had a 4 year YES warranty on it. What is involved in switching the warranty over to me? I thought I read on the paperwork something about a sled inspection??? Thanks, G.B.

The inspection is only if you want to add a YES before the factory warranty runs out. Just call your dealer, I'm pretty sure they just have to notify Yamaha of the switch.

Here is what it says on the paperwork.

To transfer the YES Contract from you to the subsequent customer, it is required that the transfer of registration and inspection be performed by a Yamaha Dealer. A reasonable dealer imposed fee may be charged for this inspection. Transfer of registration must take place within fifteen (15) days of ownership change. At the time of transfer of registration, the customer will be required to provide all required maintenance receipts or the properly completed maintenance log to the new owner. Although there is no transfer fee to transfer the YES Contract, any dealer charges for performing any inspections necessary will be the customer's responsibility.

I hope this helps.

Find out where they purchased it and call there usually that dealer will take care of it with no charge or inspection. That was what I did but then it all depends on the dealer.

My experience has been that the YES contract follows the VIN and not the owner. The vehicle will have covereage, but you may not get notificaitons of recalls, service bulletins etc by not being registered.

The waverunners that I have owned and sold had YES and it followed the VIN. The Apex I just purchased with YES till March was in the shop and had the brake lever switch replaced under YES and I never did any transfer. I don't expect to get any notifications from Yamaha either.

It's all in what you expect from YES and the relationship you have with your dealer. Mine ran the report on my new Apex, and they told me exactly what had been done with it since 2007 and by what dealer. They even printed out the report. It helps them as much as it helped me before I laid down the cash to purchase the sled.

Good luck!

A few years ago my Son bought his sled with 9100k miles on it and a few months left on the YES. I noticed it had the doughnuts leaking so we took it to the dealer and they replaced them under the YES after running the VIN to see it still had YES on it. We did not pay a fee or have it inspected prior, it follows the sled. Hope this helps. ;)!

If you don't get it transfered to your name the person whos name it is under can cancel YES and get a refund on the unused portion. And screw you in the process.

Thanks to all for you input and comments. There are two close Yamaha dealers to my house. The one I use and the other one. The other one is were this sled was bought new. I will call them both after I bring the sled home this weekend and see what they will tell me over the phone. Thanks again, G.B.
