I went riding with a bunch of guys last weekend, and one of them let me try out his new 4-stroke Renegade. I must say, I was impressed. Powerwise it felt comparable to my 06 Nytro, with maybe just a little more. The clutching was very smooth which made the power somewhat deceiving as it never really threw you back. It was very flat cornering and felt incredibly stable, but the trails were pretty loose so I can't really comment on the overall handling. The rider position was very high, very forward, much moreso than on my sled, which I personally like. The thing that I was most impressed with, and scares me as a Yamaha fan, is the engine. The only word to describe it is SMOOTH! After riding the 4-Tec for a little while, my Nytro felt like my old Viper. My only complaint is that my knees were jammed right into the cowl. I'm not sure that I could spend a full day like that.
Because I'm not comfortable on the DB-II chasis due to the width of the tank, and I think that the new Nytros are ugly and I'd probably freeze to death on one, I would definitely give this sled a serious look if I were shopping right now. Luckily I'm not in the market for a new sled.

I talked to a couple of guys with this sled. They are extremely impressed. I am riding a 09 XP Renegade 600 e-tec as my patrol sled for work and I am very impressed with it also.

How did the throttle response and clutching work together? A friend of mine who just bought a 600 Etec Renegade rode the 4 stroke and complained that the throttle was like a light switch.
I have ridden the 600 Etec and it is a smooth running motor as well. It also pulls real hard on the top end. However, the Etec shares the same bottom end with the old SDI so it might not run much longer than the old motor. I too like the riding postion of the new XP sleds but they are a colddddddddd ride. Even with a larger windy. G.B .

I was very impressed with the throttle response. It was very smooth and very linear. I only spent about fifteen minutes on the sled, so these are just first impressions. After a few hours who knows what I'd think, but based on my first impression, Yamaha better be proactive if they want to stay on top of the four-stroke market.Gone Blue said:How did the throttle response and clutching work together? As far as the sled being cold, it was at least as warm as my Nytro, probably warmer. Like I said, my biggest complaint was that my knees were really jammed into the cowling. That alone would deter me from buying this sled without spending a significant amount of time on the seat. I'm also very curious to see what the reliability of this engine will be.
