Rode with a guy with the new Cat Z1 4 stroke

Outside of the ride (which is yet unproved) you are spot on, it is very similar to the 03 RX.

Yes weight wise and being slamed for it just like the RX1 Ton was. HP wise very close. Suspension wise the Cat is way ahead of the 03 Yami. Unproven or not.

Appex wise the Cat is down a tad on hp but the true weight of the Appex is way more than Yami is claiming ask Tom what his sled weighed.

Its the only thing the Two stroke guys can find to bitch about with the Four strokes. Bitching about Cats four stroke for being heavy when ours are the same or simular is hypocrital.

And to answer your question would I buy a 03 Yami in 06? I really don't want either they both have one thing in common. First year sleds! Too many bugs. I would not buy a 07 Jag either for the same reason.

What Yami has going for them is the engine. Its the sweetest marvel of enginering to be stuffed into a sled ever. Its why I bought my 05 and why I will be riding it again next year and probably the one after that.

I'm pointing out that it's being marketed like the RX when really it's best compared to the Vector/Nytro which is imo a better all around sled. I'm interested in the adjustable seat, depending on just how adjustable and how reliable being able to adjust it is. Lets remember that Polaris dropped their adjustable bars for a reason. Get some of our fat arses on there... Could be problems.

Surely you are aware that was meant in jest...

Yep! As was my answer! My suit is Black it will match any manufacture. I'm a snowmobiler first and allways. Right now I ride Yamaha because they built a sled to suit me. The RX series.

That is precisely my situation as well. When it comes time to buy a new sled I will honestly look at all brands, not just buy the one I own now. Of course, if things continue to go as well with my sled as they have Yamaha would certainly have an edge on the others, but if somebody steps up and makes a sled that I feel better meets my wants and desires in a sled than what Yamaha is offering I wouldn't hesitate to switch brands again.

I don't feel like I owe Yamaha anything just because I bought my last sled from them.

IMO all these adjustable pieces are just marketing hype. On the Polaris they dropped "one of the best inovations in snowmobiling" (rider select) for a weight loss of 5 lbs. It was nice but people did not use it. Most people used it in the 2 most forward posistions so for a 5 lb weight savings they dropped it. AC will do the same thign in a couple of years. The sleds will loose weight and warrenty claims from these components breaking will be reduce as well. AC just needed something to add to the hype and after the snowdust settles they will find the most used posistions and fix the components in those posistions for much fewer headaches.

T-Bone, I agree in part with what you say. I think though rather than everyone riding in the same position it will be that everyone picks their own position and rarely changes from that position. So perhaps that ultimate answer here would be to make it more of a one time setting that once you get it right you just leave it there. The adjustment could require tools if necessary to save weight on adjustment mechanisms and increase durability. Polaris likely dropped it because without seat and windshield adjustability handlebar adjustability has limited appeal. I for one really hate this "save 5 pounds of wieght on my sled mentality". If you need to save 5 pounds of weight on your sled put a gallon less gas in it. Or even better lose 5 pounds. I want to meet the guy who can get on two sleds that are exactly the same other than one weighing 5 pounds more than the other and then tell me which one weighs more. It's all marketing BS unless, I repeat UNLESS you are racing at a very serious level.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised to see that Polaris pulled the rider select from their 07 models after the magazines hailed it as a great feature. Five pounds probably means a lot to mountain guys but you're right that 99% of trail riders wouldn't notice a difference as this is less than 1 gallon of petrol.

I like the direction AC is going in terms of adjustability because it recognises that there is not a "one size fits all".

QCRider, well said. If I were interested in reducing the weight of my sled I should start with the rider.

Reducing weight of the rider will not make the sled much easier to handle, meaning that taking 5 lbs off the sled makes more of a difference than shaving 5 lbs off the rider. I could benefit from loosing some lbs myself tho LOL :)

i got to thinking about that z1 jaguar compared to the 03 rx1, and honestly, how can u compare the two? the z1 jag is an 07 and the sled u guys r comparing it to is an 03 rx1. thats like comparing a srx to a vmax 4. u really should be comparing the z1 jag to an apex or vector thats an 07 also.

I agree it should be compared to the 07 lineup after all they had 3 years to learn off of Yamaha mistakes. Their first sled is bound to be better than a 03 rx-1 it is not going to take much to beat the 03 suspension. Line up the 07's of all brands and lets have a look see!

pimpedrsrage, Sled Dog - I agree, that will be the most accurate comparison. I don't think there are many people, that are going to buy a sled for '07, that are comparing a '07 against a '03 anyway.

Ok, so compare it to an '07 then... Other than the engine, which we all know is not up to the Apex 150 motor, how does the rest of the Jag compare to an Apex? I think it probably compares well. The engine is a big one for me though. I just can't see myself riding a sled that sounds like a quad when I have the option of riding one that sounds like the Apex...
