I can see that the tri hub being 'different' is questioned.

But both Yamaha and Cat continue to use.

If they were failing with regularity wouldn't they easily know - numbers of parts sold and numbers of warranty claims etc. and change to a standard axel with 3 or 4 wheels.

Are we making another 'mountain out of a mole hill'?

Maybe. Failure rate is way less than when they first came out with it in 2012. Better bearings I suspect. It's just a matter of time though. The add on wheel kits are cheap enough to justify though for sure.

I don't think the trihub is junk it's just if a bearing starts going bad you have to replace the whole thing with aftermarket kits you can replace bearing if it starts going bad that's the biggest reason !!!!!
For me anyways !!!!!

It tried the 4th wheel kit that Ulmer sells. Seams good enough but I did not like the way it made my RTX handle. It was slightly flatter in the corners but also would not slide the back as easy so I took them off. I have the skid out right now for a track swap and with 2600 miles on the skid all the wheels look and feel top notch.

I still have the Ulmer kit if anyone is interested in it.

I guess until you see all the damage from a failure. Can take out the track and rails. Saw one that was about 4ft high after the rails got bent to a 45 after getting caught in track when tri hub went out.

It's a problem IMO. Two buddies ride 800 cats had theirs fail at 800 and like 1200 miles. When it fails you are stranded. I switched mine out with a JT Stealth big wheel kit and when I removed mine the bearings were completely shot at 1000 miles, I was on borrowed time already. Problem is if one bearing goes out it breaks the entire assembly. Pic is from my buddies procross 800 on the last ride.
