Hey everybody,
I swapped my track over the weekend. Big job but it went mostly ok. I ran into a big hiccup though trying to get the skid bolted back into the tunnel. I got the front bolts in without too much trouble. But the middle bolts were a royal pain in the #*$&@. I could get one side bolted up, but then the other side would want to flex down towards the ground. I couldn't get it up into the right position with muscle alone. I ended up propping a 2x4 under the idler then lowered the sled forcing the axle up into place and bolting it in.
Everything looks and feels normal, but i'm just worried that i've screwed something up and the skid is going to explode down the trail.
Also, and unrelated, is the secondary supposed to have a little play to it on the shaft? I'm talking a few mm's.

The installation procedure you used is normal for a one person job. As long as the track is spinning without binding and you have the track adjusters set correctly you will be fine.

Secondary has a few mm's in and out play on the jackshaft.
Your suspension install sounds about right as well. Always a little muscle involved.

Sounds like you were far more gentle than most of the skids I've reinstalled! No, you didn't damage it. Think of what it goes through, there is really nothing you can do by reinstalling it that will damage it.

Next time, remove the bolts in the bottom of the transfer rods. The side bolts will go in with no problem. Then compress the suspension a bit(sit on it) and put the transfer rod bolts back in.

With my old stock skid in my 03 and the mono in my wifes apex, a ratchet strap to compress the shocks can be your best friend. I install the front bolts and then lift the suspension up into position and use the ratchet straps to compress the shocks so the bolts holes line up. Works like a charm every time with a lot less fighting. I do this with all the sled suspensions and it has never failed me yet.
