I just purchased new 2007 Attack this week & my best buddie wants to purchase the dealers last 2007 Attack. Everthing was going great until the dealer told him high windshield with brackets has been discontinued by Yamaha. My Buddy is 6'6" & gets cold with high speed running so high windshield is VERY VERY important to him. Dealer does not know what to do since he can't get windshield & my buddy is very disappointed cause he knows he will get blown off sled without windshield @ 6'6". I told him I would check TY as you guys are very clever. All help is appreciated.
Thanks whitedust1

Why don't you have your buddy pick up the new high windshield that Powermadd makes. It requires no brackets and it looks real good. Here is the link.

Yamaha also makes an extra tall windshield - sounds like that might suit him better anyway. I ordered an extra tall Yamaha windshield, but my dealer called Yamaha and they told him was backordered and would ship on 1/30/08. I couldn't wait (trip west on 1/25), so I switched the order to a Cobra tall, which came in today. Very nice windshield.
The Cobra tall is 18.5 inches. The Yamaha Extra Tall is 17.75 inches, the Yamaha Tall that your buddy wanted is 16 inches. SnoStuff also makes some nice windshields for the Apex. Your/his dealer can get any of those.

Cobra windshields are pretty good. My son's had one on his Viper for 4 years....more than 4000 miles.
Try contacting this guy...

If you're going to run a very tall windshield and like to ride fast, I'd recommend installing a pair of the reinforcement braces from Yamaha (I don't know if they can be purchased separately).
The reason for the braces is the headlight pod's mounting isn't strong enough to handle the wind force on the windshield at high speeds. The pod may not break, but the headlight will point upwards at high speeds.
I have the tall windshield on mine (with the braces) and my buddies have the mid-windshields on theirs. We've done some testing on a flat trail and found even the mid-windshield causes the headlight to point up a lot at high speeds. My tall windshield, with the braces, keeps the headlight aligned much better than the medium. I can only imaging how a tall or extra tall would behave without bracing...
Are you certain Yamaha has discontinued the tall windshields? They had some fitment problems and I've heard they are backordered, but my understanding is they can still be ordered.

Picking up my Attack today. As of Friday Yamaha Apex high windshield was back ordered then status went to not available .....discontinued due to breakage at high speeds is my understanding. My dealer had 1 in stock & already sold but can not get more. Check with your dealer....maybe Yamaha will fill orders if enough units. Maybe Apex discontinued in 2009 line up & no need. Not sure but Apex high windshield gone for now.

Well that makes sense, I have never cared for the headlight assembly on my Attak (headlight moving while ridding). I thought that it might be the mid height shield moving it, thanks for the confirmation.

Breakage at high speeds?
Seems like a strange excuse to me. Mine seems very solid at high speeds. My only complaint is how badly the large windshields fit around the mag side headlight.
Its also strange that they would discontinue something that is almost essential if you want to turn an Apex into a long distance sled. Even Yamaha's cross country race sleds typically run the large windshield.
Is the extra large still available?
