upper new york state rider should think of riding in ontario
another option is to cross the border and head to arnprior ontario. the antrim truck stop has plenty of parking for trucks and trailers and this is a good starting point for riding, we have lots of snow right now and the trails are in excellent shape. Its only a three hour drive from syracuse new york. if you start in anprior you can head up to pembroke in one day and stay overnight at the best western right on the trail. a three day trail permit is $100 canadian and gives you three days of riding. might be worth checking out. alot sledders have traded in their sleds for atvs, so the trails are not that busy. pemits sales are down but the trails are still great. only down side is if the border is busy , you might end up waiting 1/2 hour to get across. lots of hockey tournaments in pembroke so you might want to call to reserve a room. might be worth checking out for two days. 3 day trail pass can be purchased at most gas stations in the arnprior area or bought on line at ofsc canada.

TUG HILL
The secret to riding on Tug Hill is two fold. First if you can, ride during the week. Weekend riders are sometimes out of control due to the increased traffic. Secondly get to know some of the local people. I have been riding on Tug Hill since 1973, really... We avoid the common BAR-TO-BAR trails. There are a lot of fields and back trails that tourists never get to see, and it makes it quite nice for those of us that know them.
CANADA is the big league.. Don't care what anyone says about Old Forge or the Hill on a good day. Go to CANADA and you will more than likely skip riding in NY forever. I have riden sleds in ever possible part of Quebec over a 12 year run. The best of the best is the Val D'or area. It is the best riding you will ever find. Literally you will ride all day without seeing other riders. Some of the trails are set up so that you can run high speeds without worry. The nightly entertainment is.... don't get me started. The Gaspe loop is also outstanding for it's variety of riding. The wood and cable suspension bridges are a bit unnerving though.
I have also ridden out of Ontario ( Cumberland )into Quebec. Stay away from Mt Laurier or St Donat ( Le Cabanon ) way too much traffic. Its like the Hill only larger.

QUEBEC TRAIL PASS
Trust me the $100.00 three days pass is worth every penny.
The weekly pass is $180.00. None of the guys that I have taken there for the first time thought it was too much considering the awesome trail grooming.
Not that we are serious outlaws but some of the trials are speed unlimited. Especially Trail 93 from Lebel-sur-Quevillon to Chibougamau.
Straightest, fastest trail in Quebec bar none.

Seeing as it really looks like this year is not going to turn out good at all. I'm thinking it might be time to investigate Canada. I proposed this to a couple of my friends, but no one wanted to do it. Anyone here interested in going up for a couple days? I'm not interested in doing it anyway except first class. So be prepared to spend $.

VAL D'OR TRIP
There are 8 of us going to Val D'Or on Sunday February 19th and returning on Saturday Feburary 25th. We will be staying there all week except one overnight trip to either Chibougamau or Clova during the week. I have 5 rooms booked and can take 2 more people.

VAL D'OR
WE leave from Barnes Corners and can be in Mt Laurier in 4 hours, then it's about 2 more depending on the weather.

Re: QUEBEC TRAIL PASS
Just got home from Quebec. Conditions were awesome. 1340 miles in 5 days. I concur, Quevillion to Chibougamau is as fast as you want to go! Just don't run out of gas....
